Fossildude19
Sorry - not seeing any fossils here. Ironstone concretions and rocks. Have you thought about joining a Fossil/mineral club? It really helps to get an idea about what you are looking for, and learn the types of fossils that are available near you. Raggedy Man
I don't see anything that hints at any type of fossil... So I guess all I can say is, Keeplookingitsjustarock! Best regards, Paul ...I'm back.
KeepLookingItsJustAROCK
Here is the odd tusk looking one. Could be wood but it's fossized into something.
jpc
the last one might be fossilized wood, or the impression of wood in the rock, which is technically also a fossil.
TNCollector
I live in East Tennessee as well. Sorry, but what you have is mostly ironstone concretions, likely from Pennsylvanian deposits in the area. I have found many of them while looking for plant fossils. Your last image that you posted separately however, does suggest petrified wood, which is pretty common in the area. Good luck!
KeepLookingItsJustAROCK
This is a jaw fragment. Not a concretion.
Fossildude19
I don't see any bone texture to that item at all. Maybe you should take it to a local museum or university to be looked at in hand. JohnJ
This is a jaw fragment. Not a concretion. Unfortunately, not. Ironstone concretions can be incredibly diverse and suggestive in shape. KeepLookingItsJustAROCK
Unfortunately, not. Ironstone concretions can be incredibly diverse and suggestive in shape. I understand that about concretions, but could you show me an example of a concretion that looks like teeth or one that has multiple different patterns and texture. Not to be rude but all those examples had multiple patters and texture, they were consistent throughout. Im guessing these are concretions also... JohnJ
Most are geologic oddities from what I can see. You may have a possible fossil in the first photo of post 16 (left rock). The right photo in post 17 could be a fossil. It looks like a blastoid on the right of the first photo in post 18. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Fossildude19
Well, I finally see a fossil in your pictures. This one... ... is a Blastoid. It is a part of a sea creature that was around before many things that had teeth and vertebrae - possibly from the Ordovician period., according to this geologic map. This tells me that you should be looking for mostly invertebrate fossils - brachiopods, gastropods, pelecypods, bryozoans, corals, and trilobites. You are taking generalized shapes that look kind of similar to body parts, and applying them to the rocks you are finding. Start to focus on the types of fossils listed above,... learn what they look like, and start looking for those shapes. Congratulations - I expect once you get familiar with the shapes and textures of actual fossils, you will have even more success. JohnJ
Thanks, but what ab this one you missed plus another one that wasn't in the pics Please keep in mind that people, here, are trying to help you. Your images are sometimes very blurry and it makes a specific ID difficult. We can't see in a blurry image what you see in your hand. I did mention that it appeared like a fossil. Do you have a clearer image? The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
