SailingAlongToo
We have all had those fossil hunting trips / days in our "fossil careers" that have gone very well, well, average, not so good and down right BAD. So, I thought I would start a topic here where we can all share some experiences, and maybe keep someone else from having to learn the same lessons we've learned, or at least save them some pain and suffering. Whether its weather, wildlife, gear, other people, conditions, poor planning, or some other emergency, etc., lets share a few laughs, eye rolls and head shakes. The first photo is from a great day of hunting by boat on a local river with an awesome partner. He loves the boat, water and beaches and when he gets tired he doesn't whine or complain, he just lays down and surveys the surroundings until something else peeks his interest. Tip of the day - crinkling plastic peeks his interest instantly, even if it isn't food. The second photo of an iced over boat ramp and marina is NOT what you want to find when you want to go fossil hunting by boat on a 50 degree day. Many times the beaches and banks on the shady side look like this for a while, even after the air temp warms up. This is also a very good indicator of how high the water was running recently. Tip of the day - plan on the sunny side because ice and snow are great insulators, take a while to melt, are hard to walk on and hard to see through.
