New Members katie110977 Posted June 8, 2016 New Members Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Hello, This was taken in St. John's, Newfoundland. CA. Unfortunately it looks like it has been uprooted from its original home. These rocks lined a popular walking trail. There are lots of great fossil sites around here. Mistaken Point, Manuel's River, etc. Just wondering if it is a fossil and if anyone knows what it might be?! Sorry for the confusion. The second pic is now taken down. it was only there for comparison anyways not identification... Thanks!! sixgill pete
It reminds me me of a plant fossil, but then it just does not look quite right to be one. It is very interesting. I do wish I could be of more help, but I am pretty sure someone will come that can help more. Welcome to the forum. New Members katie110977 Posted June 8, 2016 Author New Members Share Posted June 8, 2016 I appreciate the help. I figured due to its sheer size it must be some sort of fauna. Trilobites are common here but I'm not sure they get this big? It doesnt quite look like one either or at least a whole one to me.
Plantguy
My 1st impression is non-fossil, possibly preserved mud cracks....I dont see any veination or symmetry...maybe its there and I'm missing it...I like it! Regards, Chris

ynot
The first picture is not fossil. The other is a trilobite partial. Tony
FossilDudeCO
It does look like the mid section of a trilobite! But I concur, just a funny rock!
TNCollector
First item does indeed appear to be mud cracks or something similar to it, second picture is indeed a partial trilobite. Nice find!
ynot
If the second picture is not a partial trilobite, I need to go back to kindergarten. Tony PS iIt is better to add new pictures in a new post rather than adding them to the original post by editing. It will cause less confusion for the responders.
