Small piece of a skull?? From Aurora

I found this in aurora.

It looks like a small piece of a skull.

I realize this is a long shot, but any info is helpful.

Those zig zag lines look like stylolites; pressure solution features common in limestone. I don't know what the other feature may be, possibly a weathered colonial coral. I'm not seeing skull.

I'm sorry, this may be a stupid question, but....

 

Aurora, TX?

Aurora, NC?

Aurora, CO?

Aurora, IL?

 

Each of these places would have different aged rocks exposed and a geologic age can be helpful.

 

I would assume Texas, but you know hat they say about assuming!

The zig zag lines look like sutures to me.  I think whale skull frag is a good guess.

so... you were right about the assuming part.

Yeah this is definitely a small chunk of a mammal skull, not limestone with stylolites. As JP points out above that's a suture line. Unfortunately it's so incomplete that identification past "mammal skull" is not possible.
