Hello, I might be going on a week long trip to Lismore, NSW soon. Are there any fossil sites/places to look within an hour (any direction) from Lismore?

Not really, unfortunately... The closest places I can think of (off the top of my head) are Nymboida and Dinmore, but both are still a few hours out of the way. Not to say theres absolutely no fossil deposits anywhere around there of course.

Enjoy your trip though, its a great part of the world!

Thank you. I'll have a look around there. Perhaps the beaches to the east of there. You never know! ;)

there must be something in the Lismore / kyogle area I am finding large amounts of petrified wood on my property (picture attached).

I have even found bones sticking out of rock.

The difference it does not have the rings, the picture does not show that there are 3 parallel pieces sticking out, I suspect it is ribs.

I’m with jpc it looks like fossil wood. You can’t always see the rings and they can have different colors than living trees

Great looking wood. As for smaller pieces, my eye sees what appears to be 2 small pieces and a limb cast. No rings as the wood rotted out then the hole filled in with mineral laden water.
