ynot
Welcome to TFF! Thanks for posting pictures here. This rock is not a egg or any type of fossil. It looks like a chert nodule.

New Members Elizabeth Lucile Posted September 27, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted September 27, 2018 If this still had the other half connected to it, it would be the size and shape of say a football... Are chert nodules normally that large?
Aurelius
You can have nodules of many sizes, some much larger than that. Many are vaguely egg-shaped.

They form in sedimentary rocks, and can get quite large.
New Members Elizabeth Lucile Posted September 27, 2018 Author New Members Share Posted September 27, 2018 All this time, I finally get answers about what it is. But it totally looks like a giant egg! Even has cracks and missing chunks on it's thin, outer surface just like an egg would have. Well thank you all for your answers!

When a cryptocrystalline quartz is exposed to the weather the silica will bond with water at the surface. The longer it is exposed the more hydration occurs. This will form a shell like layer on the rock.
