Ernst Quarries Question

Just got back home in New Jersey. That was a great experience, especially meeting you guys! Can't wait to do it again.

Two other great guys were thread starter Kurt, who drove from N.J., and Jason. Both seemed experienced, and apparent boundless energy to have done this for 3 days straight.

Experienced? No, this was my first time digging for anything! I've done the Calvert Cliffs (3.5 hour drive) and Big Brook (about 30 minutes from me) multiple times.  I went to Shark River Park once, but all I found was a small partial tooth and this strange smooth sphere (3 cm diam) that feels like stone. No idea what it is- probably the core of some sort of manufactured ball. I noticed on fossilguy.com, he seems to have removed any mention of Shark River Park, in New Jersey. Anyone know why? I'll search the forum.

Well, the 40 hour drive seems to have worn me out a bit. I'll start cleaning and photographing my finds tomorrow morning. Guess I'll just post them here.

1. I'm wearing a human suit in this picture.

2. Someone else stole my identity and is posing as me.

3. The whole thing is a sham and I never made it to the quarry that day.

4. That guy is my evil twin and I am actually taking the picture.

5. I am a secret government agent,  now that you know who I am, I will have to eliminate you.

Your choice!

For some reason, I’ve always assumed  you were rather elderly. I’m now wondering what it was I’d read that gave me that impression.

Ah, I disguise it well.  Being a vampire, I am always looking for fresh diggers to feed upon to keep me seemingly younger looking. ;)

Lol, I’m certain it was a comment I once read which gave that false impression.

So what do you consider elderly? Someone over 40?

Well it is taking him long enough to post pics or a report, so don't worry we have plenty of time.:) Lets get back to @BLT

So what were you saying about Doren being an Old Geezer?

Sure, tie me to the whipping post and let everyone take turns.

Lol! My comment was not intended as a veiled insult. I honestly assumed you were in your seventies or eighties. My bad!

Oh dear!  Actually, I have always wondered why so many forum members were always (good naturedly) ribbing the guy. I’ve always thought it seemed a bit disrespectful to tease the elderly. :doh!:

Don't worry sweetheart, I am fully capable of "ribbing" right back!

You don't grow up with a name like mine without developing a pretty thick skin.

I think I am actually growing ostroderms!

Okay, okay- here are my finds over the three days we were at Ernst Quarries. All my brokens and partials are on the left side of each group- I guess I'm still at the newbie stage where I can't get myself to throw them away. Found the big Mako at the end of the first day after everyone else had left. Found it while clearing away the loose silt "overhang" someone had left while digging into a wall. Great way to end the day. Day 2 were all from the same spot where I found the Mako. @caldigger and @Fossil-Hound ended up there on Day 3, and- I think- dug out some pretty good things. We moved around a lot on Day 3. The day started with Rob letting us dig down by some trench, but we just didn't have the tools to dig through the hard material and we weren't finding anything. caldigger found some really impressive teeth throughout the day, but MrR and I were finding mostly smaller ones. I didn't care- I was having a great time.

@Kurt Komoda that's a very nice bunch of teeth! Congrats!

You must've been ecstatic finding that big cow shark tooth on Day 2. I know I would've!

I was absolutely thrilled. Could never find one at Calvert. I love the color and the serrations on the leading edge. @Fossil-Hound found one about twice this size.

I don't think you can really get much better than a big pink cow shark tooth... What a beauty! I would enter it in the VFOTM if I were you.

@Fossil-Hound let's see yours!

@Max-fossils here's my cow shark tooth. It's over an inch in width and needs some cleaning. There's some other blades down there but they are hidden under the dirt (silt). The other tooth is an orange Isurus (or depending on your alignment Carcharodon) planus (Mako/Great White hooked tooth shark). I'll post some more pictures later.
