Found In southern Indiana in river rock. Object is about 2” wide at bottom and about 2.5” tall. Seems as though this rock is loaded with interesting finds. Is it a tooth or hoof? Maybe. A primitive claw?

Sorry, but I don't see anything to indicate that it is a fossil of any sort.

Nope. Not seeing anything either. The subtle symmetry (and a bit of imagination ;)) is leading you to wondering if it might be a tooth or claw but teeth have distinctive enameled surfaces and claws, well, look more claw-like. Most of the fossil material up in the Indiana area is much much older than when animals had large claws and teeth. Your area likely has more marine fossils from the Ordovician or Silurian (things like brachiopod shells, trilobites, crinoids, bryozoans, etc.). There are fossils to be found near you but this one sadly is not one of them.

Welcome to the forum. Do some searching here on the forum and you'll find more about the fossils of Indiana.

Cheers.
