Plantguy
Hey PL, nice examples. Made me think about a couple of specimens in my collection that were labeled from China that I had gotten from somewhere and that I had always wondered about their authenticity and honestly never really looked at too closely. Grampa Dino's posted warning is well heeded for both locales. Anyways, I looked at your photos and compared them to what I had. I am not a trilo person but they seem to have the same general coloration as yours and the same shape. The specimen in my photo on the right is sitting in a plane with lots of trilobite debris. Maybe you or some of the trilobite experts can verify they are indeed Ductina. Regards, Chris

Auspex
That's a very attractive trilobite fossil What is the nature of the buff-colored layer that covers most of it? pleecan
That's a very attractive trilobite fossil What is the nature of the buff-colored layer that covers most of it? Hi Auspex: At one point I was tempted to sand blast the trilo with baking soda to clean of the tan colored deposit. I am wondering if at a later a fissure developed in the fossil permitting ground water containing dissolved mineral to seep into the bedding plane thus creating the mineralized deposits... reminds me of a hard water scum mark similar to the sediments at the bottom of a kettle.....
