Ecrinesomus dixoni or Bobasatrania mahavavica???

Lower Triassic

Ambilobe

Madagascar

Two very similar looking fish can be found in the Triassic of Madagascar: Ecrinesomus dixoni and Bobasatrania mahavavica. So far I could not find a reasonable way how to distinguish these two species. I've found a couple of pictures, for example this reconstruction by Stensioe

and another picture which claims to be an Ecrinesomus

Even seems to be the same reconstruction - so what is it really?

I just got a new fish which looks different: The body doesn't seem to be so rectangular - the outline is more ovoid compared to this one
