Mucrospirifer mucronatus (brachiopod)
Middle Devonian
Windom Shale
Moscow Formation
Deep Springs Road quarry
Lebanon, NY.
collected 6/22/15
Mucrospirifers are ridiculously common at this site, but they're so fragile collecting a complete one out of the matrix is next to impossible. Single valve specimens inevitably crack or shatter when you try to remove them from the rock. This one, fortunately, has both valves and is less flattened than most.
