Hello, First, if this is covered somewhere else already, my apologies! I looked around but couldn't find any threads, but if it does exist and you want to point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated! What is your favorite rock / mineral book? I have a few that I've picked up over the years, but nothing really knocks my socks off. I'd love to learn more about formation of different stones in a little more depth than your average rock book, and I am 0% interested in metaphysical info. Is there something that exists that's between a text book and your average mineral ID book? Let me know your favorites, what are the rock hounds reading these days?! Thanks Maranda

Several people pick Ankylosaurus, Euoplocephalus, Edmontonia, Polacanthus, Sauropelta, Hylaeosaurus, Gargoyleosaurus, and Gastonia when asked what their favorite ankylosaur is. However the scope of this question is to ask users what their favorite Asian ankylosaur is.

What is your favorite extinct creature and why?
Pterosaur posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hey everyone! I want to know your favorite extinct animal and why. Theropods, ornithischians, artiodactyls, cetaceans, carnivores, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs, gastropods!!! Megatherium, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Anzu Wyliei, Leedsichthys, Stegosaurus, Megalodon, Glyptodon, Moonshot, Woodstock, Watergate, Punk Rock! (just kidding) ANYWAYS, there are no limits here. Even if its coral. Get specific! Do you have a fossil from your favorite creature? If not, is it even possible to acquire one? Have any interesting discoveries been made about your creature as of late? Just looking to learn and start some interesting discussions. GO! ------ Cheers! Lauren- 30 replies

Paleo Preference: What is your favorite kind of fossil?
MeargleSchmeargl posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Though i have not been as active as i wish i could, I sit here now dreaming of the pristine Megalodon (Meg for short) tooth. Since I already know that I would do anything in the world to have a good sized Meg tooth in my collection, I want to ask a burning question: What is the fossil you at one point or another were dying to have in your collection (essentially, what is your favorite fossil)? Why do you like that fossil more than any other? Interested to hear your responses -
Paleo Preference (locations): What is your favorite fossil site?
MeargleSchmeargl posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Being a pretty young amateur, I have not had the chance to visit all too many sites, due to time constraints. Knowing that most anyone has their spot where they make their best finds, enjoy the hunt more, etc., I wonder what place is your favorite for finding fossils. -
Welcome from Colorado! What is your favorite Mesozoic animal that is not a dinosaur?

As the title asks, what is your favorite kind(s) of fossil? I'm sure everyone has their favorite few, but I still don't know what types tend to be popular. I'll leave "kind" fairly open to interpretation. It could be a group of fossil types (Trilobites, Crinoids, etc.), a specific species (T. arthropoda, P. planus, etc.), specific replacement mineral, specific matrix, etc. Feel free to post image examples. At the moment I'm going to have to go with crinoids in general. I've seen some amazing specimens on here and the internet. I wish I could find one myself

Every time I go out fossil hunting is a good story for me. Im just still waiting for one thats worth telling with a mind blowing find. Ive found some nice fossils over the years but only 2 different finds of my top 10 over the years. That was a nice fern and a few nice petrified wood. When I tell my story it will involve a full trilobite or a nice trace fossil with Dino or amphibian tracks. So I want to hear your stories.

What is your favorite fossil you have? -
The other weekend I was in Washington, DC and although I couldn't get away to hunt any fossils, I did manage to sneak into the Smithsonian natural history museum with my two boys. After a couple of hours of hearing things like "Canadensis! Look Joseph, they have a Canadensis, a Sideneya and an Anamolocaris!" and "Dad these are the first Vendian fossils I have ever seen in real life" and "that is the best Dunkleosteous Terrelli (sp?) I've ever seen, the one in New York is bigger, but this one is in such good shape!" we did have to leave. But I was wondering which museum was there favorite and the answer was: For dino fossils AMNH in NYC, for Burgess shale the Smithsonian, and for mammals the La Brea tar pits (Page Museum). So to the readers of the Forum I ask "What is your favorite museum(s) and why?

Hi, i’m high school student in 12th grade. I’m currently working on a senior exit project, and I chose palentology as my career choice. I would like to do an interview with a paleontologist just asking a couple of questions like: what is your favorite thing about the job, what inspired you to be a paleontologist, how long did you have to attend school to become a paleontologist, etc. An interview over email or even over the website would suffice. Thank you.

Nice drawing. My daughter loves to draw. She’s a freshman in high school. She is in an art emphasis program she had to interview for to get in. She can draw almost anything, but she loves anime. I’ve tried to get her to draw animals or fossils or something, but she’s stuck on anime. What is your favorite stuff to draw?

So, I am curious... For you crab lovers, what is your favorite species? Personal favorite specimen? And species/specimen you would like? And the ever-dreaded question on school assignments...Why/Explain?

Hi all! I have a question for you fossil-hunters, especially those from the Netherlands and Belgium. What is your favorite fossil beach from Zeeland (NL)??? I know that Kaloot, Cadzand and Ritthem are pretty good, but I was wondering what the best one was for finding sharkteeth. Perhaps you know another beach in Zeeland that's better? Anyways I'd like your advice on this, and tell me all the info you have! (eg: what you found, photos, access, etc.) Actually, I'd like you to take this as a game, and that you "advertise" the beach to me, to make me want to go there; if you see what I mean! Happy hunting! Max
