Looking for a fossil hammer for under $15 that does as good of a job as an Estwing 22 oz rock hammer. Do any exist?

I'm trying to upgrade the way I pack my hammer, a Plumb 24oz brick hammer. Right now I use the hammer holster off my carpenter's belt. I don't have them right here so I will borrow pics from marketers (see end of post). One option is to find a full sized sheath like maybe the Estwing 23 and another is to do what I am already doing, just with a cover on the chisel end, So I have two questions...... (1) If you use a full sized sheath, and you're regularly reaching for your hammer, do you keep the flap snapped down, or will the hammer ride ok with the flap loose? (2) Do you know of products or DIY designs for some sort of guard for the chisel end? It needs to be super secure when the tool is bouncing on my hip and super easy to remove when I want to pry at something. Either option needs to remain on the tool when its packed away in storage. Thanks I have this hammer and right now use a hammer holster similar to this (the claw hammer stays home)

My new hammer has arrived. Hopefully it’ll open harder nodules easier than my old one. It’s a 2lb club hammer style. I read that est wing are a good company.

I wanted to get a lighter replacement for a 22 oz masonry hammer. I ordered a 13 oz rock pick. Apparently, a rock *pick* isn't made for actually hammering rocks. Fair enough. Buyer beware. But the size and weight of the 13 oz pick are virtually identical to my 22 oz hammer. That is a bit strange. I will keep the new tool as a backup, but since I actually need to *hammer* rocks, I'll continue carrying my masonry hammer. It works as a hammer, chisel, and low force pry bar.

Hey all. I noticed that my Estwing hammer has started to rust over. Should I be overly concerned about this? There's a good chance that I won't be using it for about a year, and I don't want to take it out again and have it be completely unusable.

Can I get some recommendations on a decent rock hammer? Doesn't have to be anything really expensive or anything since I'll rarely use it. Going to be taking a trip to NY this summer and want to find something to help me collect. Thanks.

I am finally going to pop for an eastwing hammer and have a question about weights. I did some research on the forum and it seems that most of you like the 20oz pick. I looked on the eastwing website, and they have a lightweight model. Often I am trying to pack as light as possible since I have some sites that are long hikes and I often like to leave my fossils in matrix and weight has been an issue. Is the 14 and 13oz hammers too light? I realize I would only be saving a few oz of weight and I might be over thinking this. Also, should I go long handle? Thank you, Joe
