    Bone identification please

I found this over the summer at stratford hall in VA. Can anyone help me identify this? Thank you!

Did I pick up trash? Opalescent

Found this washed up in a place I think is yorktown formation. I thought it might be fossilized because of the opalescence in the marrow. I dont know where to start on evaluating this, what do you all think?

    Large fossil identification help

These were found in a North MS creek. The cut of the creek is down to the hardpan and fifteen feet below ground level. There were numerous fractures on and beyond the exposed portions of the fossils. To accommodate for this and to maintain their integrity, both of them were removed along with hard pan, as a shelf. The smaller of the two fossils was found less than an inch away from the main body. As with the larger fossil, it was fractured and fell into four pieces--the nub, the main body, a shoot, and a tip--and these can be seen in the lower right and the upper left corners, respectively. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.
  4. Quite a while ago, I found these two pieces at the beach near South Ponte Vedra, FL, where I find every fossil in my collection. One, most likely, is a bone, may be rib? I am not sure about the other piece. I would appreciate any help ID'ing it.

"Fish" bone from Penn. Naco Formation?

HI all, A fantastic fossil expedition yesterday up on the foothills of the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona in the Pennsylvanian Naco formation. Besides the hordes of corals we picked up for the acid bath, I found this large piece of bone material in rather large rock eroding out. It is no doubt bone, since it also passes the "lick and stick" test well. The unique cupped end might make it easier to identify. We gravitate toward invertebrates and plant material, however we wont pass up on a nice sharks tooth or bone fragment if we find it in such deep water marine material! What are your thoughts? We covered it up and marked the spot so we can go back at some point and try to extract it if warranted. I did my best to get a clear shot of it, and think I did well considering its a small hand held digicam.
  6. I traded this piece in this forum few months ago, and i heard this is spinosaurus's neural spine. After i received this I searching and trying to match this bones with spinosaurus's neural spine and sail bone. They looks pretty similar with this piece but not perfect matched. So, I can't sure what is this bone piece is.. I hope i can identify this clearly. Do you have any idea of this pieces? +I feel really embarrassing about i wrote 'Kam Kam' on title... now i edit that. I feel i need to more study again It's almost 30cm long. And here is more details. Thanks for your help.

    Weird bone?

My friend found this on the shore of Cape Cod the other day. She thinks it’s bone. It is solid and darker in the middle. I have no idea what the strange markings are that are on it. Looks almost like scrimshaw but I didn’t get to see the piece. I’ll post more pics when I get them. Any ideas? Thanks

    Fish bone?

Hi all, Found this (I think) fish bone at Wassenaar, Netherlands. From the late Pleistocene, some 40’000 years old. Is it indeed a fossil fish bone? If so, what kind of fish? And what part of the animal would it be? Looking forward to your suggestions! Max

    Big bone piece!

Hi all, Last weekend, on the beach of Wassenaar, not far from the Zandmotor, I found several things. Surprisingly a lot more than I expected (I usually never hunt here), but I think that there was a big storm which brought lots of new fossils and other things to the shore. This is was one of them: a big piece of bone. It looks like it’s the end section of a limb of some kind. I can’t tell whether it’s modern or fossil... The looks of it scream modern, but somehow the burn test seems to say it’s fossil... Note: if it is indeed fossil, it’s likely from the late Pleistocene, about 40’000 years old. Well, what animal do you guys think this bone piece came from? What part of the skeleton would it represent? And would you say it’s fossil or modern? Looking forward to your answers! Max

    A few bone pieces

Found two bone bits at brownies (Miocene, Marine. Calvert FM) That I need some help with. First up is a big old hunk (like 2.5 inch’s which is a bigger chunkosaurus than I’m used to). Wonder if it’s identifiable? It’s also got a line in it, maybe predation marks? Maybe it’s just wishful thinking l.

    Rappahannock Creek find

I have no idea what these things are but I keep picking them up. I think someone thought they might be steinkerns (casts) or maybe had other suggestions (getting old, senile, maybe I forgot). Almost flat on one side, kidney-shaped where there are characteristic radial bands or striations; rounded on the other side (second picture). Almost always have the black glossy enamel of fossils. The more rounded side on this specimen is chipped and you can see the same radial banding within, but with no shiny black. Generally all are about an inch or so long. Thanks for your help?

    Bones?

These two pieces are said to be from the Morrison formation. Anyway way to ID them?
  15. Hi TFF friends, Last week I spend my holidays in france, and went fossil hunting at cap blanc-nez just after the hurricane David hit northern europe. As i walked in direction of wissant i found inside an albian formation(i think it is les sables vert, it is clay mixed with glauconite) the following objects. It is 8cm long for the biggest part, 2.5cm to 3cm large, 1cm at the thickest place. It is slightly curve and the cross section is a U shape.

    Ichthyosaur Boneblock

We found this boneblock on Yorkshire coast, we spent 12 hours walking over rocks, mud etc as well as climbing ropes in the rain up cliffs, we visited port, runswick and Kettleness, followed cleveland way back as high tide but ended up taking a wrong turn and a huge detour round the old railway line before heading back to the beach through 8" mud down a thin track, tide was too high to pass so after a short while we found a little opening in the undergrowth that led to a path that took us to freedom, good job we took our head torches as was pitch black, oh the joys, backpack was getting heavier & heavier as the hours passed, today we rest, anyways... looks like a huge humerus with other bits in there, will post more photos later when I'm alive, what you guys think ? Alan.

Hi guys, a couple of bones here I'd like a little help with please:

    Got two interesting ones

So I've had these two pieces for ages, but I know nothing about them. The first one is a gastropod but I can't figure out what made that crack in the shell? The second one seems like a piece of bone because its porous but I'm not sure.

    Mystery fossil from brazil !

Sooooo.... I have a skullfragment from Brazil dating back from the 60s, but have no data other than that I'm afraid and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions in terms of ID? There is no prep done to it, so there is quite a bit of bony matrix still attached. Here come a few pictures, but if anyone wants some closeups of something in particular don't hesitate to ask Best regards Good luck !

    Equus Metatarsal?

I believe this to be a horse metatarsal, most likely Equus. But am wondering since it was found in mixed Pleistocene / Pliocene sediments if it could be a Pliocene species. That is saying it is horse of course, you know Mr. Edd. It was found in a quarry in eastern NC that contains Pliocene Yorktown formation and a Pleistocene pebble lag. It was protruding from a sloped area that extended down into a shallow pit. The sediments pushed down were mixed Yorktown and the pebble lag. Mammal fossils are uncommon in North Carolina and they are usually teeth. Bones, especially complete are almost unheard of.

    cave bone

Hi Is it animal bone and what is its age? Location: Twardowski cave , Kraków ,Southern Poland
  23. Hi Everyone! This is my first post and my first time taking pictures of fossils for help with ID's. I promise I will get better! About these fossils: These bone fragments and scutes were found west of Houston, TX, along the Brazos River (Fort Bend and Waller Counties). All of these specimens were found loose, on several different gravel bars. From the preliminary research I have done already, it looks like they are all Pleistocene in age. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is what I think so far... Specimens 1 and 2: Alligator scutes from the Pleistocene Specimens 3 and 4: Soft shell turtle scutes from the Pleistocene Specimen 5: Unknown Specimens 6, 7, and 8: They look like leg bone fragments from Pleistocene mammals, but that's about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also, any input you can provide on how to take better pictures would be very helpful.

    Bone Pimple?

Alrighty, this one has had me stumped for some time. There is a western outcropping of the Temblor Formation fairly close to me. I call White Sands Deposit due to the nature of the matrix. It contains a secondary deposit of Miocene marine critters similar to Sharktooth Hill with the exception of many more Desmostylus teeth bits ( maybe because closer to the ocean?). I digress, I found this a few years ago amongst marine mammal bones of the same nature. All bone and teeth here are silicon replaced from the sand. Not sure if it is a piece of bone or not, really don't find rocks here. It has the same coloring and texture as surrounding bone. Anyway, here it is. The next few shots are of other chunks of bone to show these don't express the normal expected spoongy porous look of bone.
