    3D embryonic dinosaur

A nice easter surprise "In a new study, researchers scanned two Massospondylus carinatus dinosaur embryos first found in 1976 in South Africa’s Golden Gate Highlands National Park. They used synchrotron scanning, which is a kind of 3D X-ray scan. " https://www.inverse.com/science/dinosaur-embryo-3d-scan https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-60292-z

    Possible Fossil Egg - Scotland

Happy Easter to everybody and hopefully you can help identify the following: Found a 2 " egg shaped object, Penicuik, Midlothian, Scotland in a field which has had a small hole previously drilled on one side. The egg object is hollow inside and the shell is about 2mm thick and feels like solid rock and sounding when tapped. The item has various minute cracking across its surface as shown by the attached photographs. I have also tried to show the hole and depth of cavity using a dart inserted into the object. It appears too clean an object to be a fossilized egg, however, how did the cracking and cavity occur if it is indeed a rock? Any help appreciated and stay safe, regards, Paul (newbie)
  5. seen this for sale and to me it looks genuine but i am wondering about its authenticity, its location has no red flags as is Washington (not Cincinnati) any input would be appreciated.
  6. So, as a 12-year old fascinated with fossils, dinosaurs, etc. I found this and assumed it was a fossil egg. As I am much older, I tend to think more of a concretion, but the shape, and little kid in me says "yolk" but the adult says concretion. Again, found in St. Louis county along creek. Interesting none-the less?........... stay healthy! Bone
  7. Hi all. Newbie Jeff here. I’m a collector of sorts and come across all sorts of odd items on a regular basis. I recently came across something that was immediately suspect to me. It may just be a rock but I’ll lay out the scenario of how I got it and then you can check out the pics and maybe someone out there can point me in the right direction. I got a literal truckload of home decor, knock knacks etc for free. Ended up being 11 large storage bins full of all sorts of south/Central American folk and native art, various antiques, housewares etc. I can tell you nothing I’ve found in this lot is cheap. I opened a lidded yankee candle that was a bit heavier than it should have been and found this little piece of curiosity wrapped nicely and tucked inside it. I won’t be heartbroken if it isn’t legit, but there’s something unique about it and now I need to know. thanks in advance Jeffi

    Possible egg

  9. Hi. I start to collect fossil for 10 months. And this is my first collection, Oviraptor's egg. I also made a show box for this fossil. When I feel tired, I will look at my collection. That's the great thing for relaxing. Thank you. By the way, My name is Cris. Nice to meet you all.
  10. Hello all! ive recently purchased this piece (I know I should have consulted beforehand) but I only saw it the last minute before the auction ended. I would still love some insight on it and maybe an actual idea of its locality and species (or genera). The seller claims there is no restoration other than gluing different parts together. He also claims its Enlongatoolithidae either raptor or oviraptor or other therapoda. I would love to have better information on it and even its locality in China, since I assume that’s where it’s from. The fossil is 15 cm long. Unfortunately these are the best photos I could get for the timebeing until it arrives. Best wishes to all, Mohammed

    Is this a egg?

Hi there, so I came across this rock awhile ago. I found it in the mountains just west of fort Collins, co. I've spent a lot of time trying to find information on it but not having much luck. It's pretty hard, doesn't leave a streak and has weird layers. It's around 2 inches or so and round-ish. Hope the pictures are good enough. If not, I can always take more. Thank you for any info!

    egg or strange rock

i prefer to play in the dirt to find fossils but i couldn't pass this up at an estate sale. price was right so i brought it home to study. not sure where it came from. any info would be much appreciated. thanks
  15. Hello all, I saw one seller online listing this piece for auction. I'm interested in bidding but the fact the seller is from Taiwan worries me. Other than that, the egg looks nice. Seller says it might be a small tyrannosaurus or large therapod egg. Locality is noted as "East Asia", which I assume is china. And the description says this is from an old Chinese collection exported in the 80s. Cretaceous of East Asia. Best wishes

    Oviraptor eggs

Hi All, hope everyone had a great Christmas. I hope someone can help, I recently received a quantity of egg shells, originating from China. They are from Oviraptor supposedly. My question is that some have nodes, others have ridges, some have something in between. Is this just something that differs from individual to individual or from species to species? A search on Google images show a selection of both nodes or ridges so I am none the wiser.
  17. Dear all, I am new to this website and to collecting fossils. I have seen a dinosaur egg, supposedly real, advertised as an egg from a large theropod. To me, the egg looks fake because the surface is very smooth and the shape "too perfect". Supposedly the egg was discovered in the 1960s. I would be happy if a knowledgeable person could briefly state their opinion on whether this is a fake or not.. Thank you very much
  18. I know the typical signs to look for in Chinese fakes, but this one is stumping me. It's got a pretty unique patina to it. Here's info and photos: Species: Oviraptor Egg Country of Origin: Taiwan (red flag) Origin of Find: China, mid-80's Measurements: 18cm x 13cm x 5cm (egg without matrix) Weight: 1,970g This seller's other items look legitimate so I'm hoping there's authenticity here. Lend me your special fossil eyes.

    Dino eggs prospecting

Last Week-end I went in the area of Aix en Provence in South of France. i wanted to find some clues of dinosaur eggs for further digging next spring. I wealked in the red badlands of the region, with nice sun and landscapes. I finally found eggshells fragments, coming from destroyed eggs because of the rain. I also spotted a few eggs in section. Enjoy the pictures ! CAN YOU SPOT THE SHELLS ? HALF EGG ABOUT 20 CM IN THE STONE
  20. Hello, I found this while at the oregon coast. Is it a fossilized egg of some kind? Its about 3 inches long. Thanks

    ID - Fossil Egg?

Hi there. I found this in the construction fill dirt around a house in North Carolina. I noticed that it was abnormally heavy compared to the other rocks in the area.
  22. Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to collecting and have gotten most of my fossils so far from one website that I think is reputable. I am trying out a website that I have purchased one fossil from already because I am interested in getting a dinosaur egg. It is a little pricey, so I just wanted to get some reassurance that it's the real deal before I pay for it. It says in the description that the original owner bought it 30 years ago and that its location of origin is unknown, which made me a little suspicious. I would greatly appreciate if I could get a little direction on this one before making a commitment.

I give up. What is thisl?

Hello - I have spent hours with this rock under the microscope hoping to find a clue that will help me confirm what it is, but....I know NOTHING about this stuff so it's best I just ask. So about 3 years ago I acquired 2 interesting looking rocks. I was told they were found here in Ventura, California along the Santa Clara river bed and I believe they were found within the last 30yrs. This first one is interesting as it looks like there's what looks like a lizard head to me protruding out of it. It also looks like it has an outer shell and in some areas you can see crystals on the inside of the rock. Could this be an egg fossil? Any help with this is greatly appreciated! Also, I can send additional pictures if needed. Thank you!

    Egg or fake

Found in river rock southern Indiana. Fossil or stone?
  25. I'm checking at this probable Crushed Dinosaur Egg, though I myself do not see the hallmark characteristics of an egg. The description says that bones and skin can are present. Just want to know what you guys think of it. The images are the top and bottom views Country: Argentina Formation: Rio Colorado Formation Period: Upper Cretaceous
