Hello, all. I just wanted to introduce myself to the fossil loving community. I live in northeast Florida (Jax area), and I am looking for any information regarding fossil searching in my area. I’m am particularly fond of shark teeth and have been beach searching for years. With the current pandemic, my interest in finding new spots has increased. And thanks to YouTube, I have been looking in creeks with little luck. I have a few leads that I can’t wait to search. I'm here to share my finds, look for possible locations in my area or those areas within fl and help identifying unknown fossils. Thank you for the add and I can’t wait to share my finds!!

Confirming Fossil Identification hello, I am trying to determine if this is an Equus Phalanges. Recovered from lake spoils in North Port, FL. Excavation to depth of approx 20 feet. I also found horse teeth in the area. Pleistocene area. Confirmation welcome. There are a lot of smart people enrolled on this forum.

Hello, I live in between Venice and North Port, FL, close to the Myakka. I have been finding tortoise fossils/clasts in my neighborhood. Most are in moist clay within a foot from surface. This location is SW of the Peace River Formation. I find deer antler, Meg teeth, and manatee ribs fully fossilized here also. This is Pleistocene area. I have not found fully fossilized tortoise. Mine are not totally solidified. I find many scutes/ spurs along with the clasts that are hardened. Looking for advice. Photos of one sample attached. Regards, Michael

Found in Jacksonville Florida.

Found on surface spoils after pond excavated. Venice, FL , 15 miles southwest of Peace River Formation. Depth was no greater than 15 feet. Possibly Arcadia formation. Pleistocene epoch. Fossil is very dense and smooth. I have found many fossils in this area but none this color or density. Note: striations on last 2 images. Looking forward to learning and sharing some other finds.

I found this tooth in the overburden sight at my work. I actually found this tooth first, and went to grab a survey flag to mark the pile. On the way I found the shark tooth i just shared in an other post. It was an exciting day. Anyway, from looking at the molar patterns of other horse tooth fossils I think that this is a three-toed horse (Perissodactyla Miohippus ?). Judging from what I think is wear on the tooth ridges, I would hazard a guess that the horse was an old timer? While I personally am not fond of horses, it was really nice to have pieces that I could clearly identify for once, instead of various fragments of a fossil jigsaw puzzle.

I found this tooth at my normal overburden site, at work, it is the best shark tooth i have even found. Looking at Shark tooth I.D guides my guess is that this is a Auriculatus tooth. What do you all think?

Hi all, I received a jar of fossils from my grandfather a couple years ago before he passed away, and was wondering what type of tooth it was. Most of the stuff in the jar is from Florida but I’m not positive everything is. It is 2 1/4 inches long. my guess is it’s either a mammoth or horse tooth.

Hi. I´m Sabrina. I found a fossil in limestone on the bank of the Withlacoochee River in Lee, Florida. I do not know for certain what kind it is or how old it is. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Sabrina Lindsey

I recieved these itty bitty teeth enclosed as a little surprise recently from Tony (ynot). All I know about them is that they are out of Cookie Cutter matrix from Florida. They appear to belong mostly or even all to the same species, or at least genus, so I'm hoping that someone here can help me out with the id. Could they perhaps be Gar teeth?

I found this tooth fragment in the ocean while vacationing at Englewood, Florida. I need help determining if this is in fact a tooth fragment and what animal it may have came from. My money is on Equus. Thank you

Hello again TFF! I just picked up this tooth that I am pretty sure is an Equus sp. found in phosphate deposits near Tampa Bay, FL. What drew me to it was two isolated cones that I haven't seen in the modern Equus teeth I've handled. Is this a positional morphology or one particular to a specific species? Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello! I'm here because I'm interested in paleoart and speculative evolution, and what better place to learn than from the fossil finders themselves! I grew up in urban Florida, so I've never really had the opportunity to go looking for fossils. I don't think I've even seen a fossil out in the "wild" (except maybe a time I saw some shell imprints in a piece of rock on display at a spring), and I've honestly barely even seen rock out here. So, as you can probably tell, I don't know the first thing about fossils. I'm honestly just here to learn, maybe about anatomy, preservation, etc, things that can help me with my quest to reconstruct lost worlds. Who knows, maybe you guys could even point me in the direction of good fossil-finding places, and teach me techniques for recovery.

I found this in Polk county, Florida a couple months ago and while looking through bones recently I found a couple things I hadn’t noticed and one of them was this small bone fragment that I think has a bite mark in it. It is almost exactly 3/4 inches.

Hi everyone, I have here some fossils, mostly teeth, from a river in Central Florida. I'm pretty sure I know what some of these are, and if anyone could confirm or correct me I'd appreciate it! I know the first one is a Megalodon fragment. The second one could be a great white. I'm less sure about the last one. My question here relates to the 9 shark teeth to the top right. I think the second is a Mako and the third is a Tiger, but ultimately not sure on any. Prehistoric crocodile/alligator tooth? It looks like a crocodile or alligator femur to me There's one I have no clue about Based on my knowledge, deer tooth? Manatee molar? I'm not sure about these. I wanted to say mammoth or mastadon tusk fragments, but I don't know if such fragments can be identified. This is more of a general question. Is there any way to wager a guess as to what these random fragments could be? Would it include turtle shells, marine mammal bones, and so on? Thank you!

Hi everyone, In the spirit of scratching my itch to hunt, I imported some matrix from Central Florida. It was around one quart. I'll share my findings, though I haven't identified too many yet. If anyone has any suggestions or corrections, I'd appreciate it! These are the highlights. Megalodon fragment; and the next two are possibly from the same lineage but I'm not sure. Maybe a prehistoric crocodile or alligator tooth My best guess would be a crocodile or alligator femur Not a clue Again, not sure other than wagering at a deer tooth Manatee molar I want to say these are fragments of mammoth or mastadon tusks, but confirmation would be great Miscellaneous stuff, most of which I'm pretty sure are fossils but it's hard to ID any.

I found this fossil in Englewood, Flordia, on the beach along with some fossilized shark teeth. I think it’s a Dugong rib bone fragment.

I have recently found dugong, whale, and dolphin ribs. Hunting friend gave me a tiny rib that we both thought might be dolphin. He is NOT a bone collector. I found a small dolphin tooth. It is 13mm. How small do these get? and then a predator tooth. I will just leave the photos, and request comments and identifications.

I found a rock on Stump Pass Beach in Englewood, FL. This said rock looks alot like a shark tooth. I had found several of the normal looking black teeth and I almost just cast this one aside, but it really resembles a shark tooth so I kept it. I just want to see if I can get verification if what I found is a really old fossilized tooth. Or not.
