    Found at Amonite falls

My son and I were at Amonite Falls in Naniamo, BC and we found this intriguing object on the river bed. Found July 22, 2019. Rocky and lots of shale along the river in a forested area. The ruler is in centemeters. Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I received some rough material that is labeled as Mahantango Formation, Middle Devonian : Givetian, McCoy's Ferry, Maryland. The stone has some strange circular impressions on it. I have no idea what these are. Can anyone tell me what these impressions are? Thanks in advance! MikeG

    ID help needed

This was given to me by friend who inherited his grandfather's collection of petrified wood, crystals, and much more scattered around his yard. I'm not sure if it was originally from northern California but that is where it was when I received it. Sorry for the lack of info. I'm hoping the cross section that it has my help.

    Geological or Fossil?

This came in a big box of mixed fossils. This is an orphan without a label or bag. It looks interesting, like a cross-section of something in the rock matrix. The object is circular in profile and cone or tooth shaped. There appears to be more than one of them, but the other is still partially obscured by matrix. Is this a mineralized fossil of some sort, or is this just a strange geological specimen that got mixed in? Could this be some kind of stromatolite? I wish I had some locality info on it, but I don't. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Hi everyone, Was at a beach in south wales (LLanelli) with family today and tried looking for fossils for the first time and managed to find this. I posted it on reddit and a couple of people suggested it may be preserved cracked mud, but (to my untrained eye!) it seems more regular and clean than ones ive found on google images, and it has those little finger-like projections which dont seem to be on so many google specimens. Some people also suggested a concretion (which I don't totally understand yet, but I'm reading). Either way I'd really appreciate your input and knowledge. Cant wait to get out there and look for more fossils, I wish I'd started earlier! Thanks for reading

    Is this even a fossil?

Hi, I found this down on the beach at Walton on the Naze (UK) the other day - not entirely sure what it is, or even whether it's actually a fossil or not - but thought I'd ask if anyone else has any other insight? It appears to be pyritised, but other than that, I don't really have any clues as to what it could be.

    GMR find

Found this at GMR and have no clue what if anything it is. Seems like more than just a stone but maybe that’s it. Anyone have any guesses?

    Tortoise?

I always assumed these were pieces of giant tortoise shell , but have never showed them to anyone. What do you think? Found in north central Nebraska.

    Modern Shark tooth identification

Hello, I´m not sure about the ID. For me the tooth looks like a Hemipristis or a bull shark tooth. The tooth is from the Indo-Pacific (Phillippines) and 1/2" (1,5cm) in lenght. I want to be sure with the ID because I do not want to buy a tooth of a protected species. I don´t know, if the question is correctly ask in the Fossilforum, but I hope, that you can help me. Kind regards from Germany

    Fossil ID please?

Hi! I have something that looks very similar, found it on a beach in New Zealand about 30 years ago. Do you know what it is yet?

    Machairodus lower jaw?

Hi everyone! I need help! I Will have this specimens in a few weeks. The biggest one is Machairodus horibilis lower jaw, i hope so. I got these stuff from my friend from China. Also, as u can see there is a lower canine from a Cave Hyena. But it's somehow long and tick for a Hyena canine. I don't know what to think about the lower jaw, it's more similar to canids and Hyenas then to felids. And yes, at the end phalanx of ferret? If someone can help somehow to determine this, that Will help me a lot to know what's the real truth. Thanks guys again! Darko

ID help needed in two teeth

First tooth is very white. I would assume it’s a fossil but can anyone give me a better opinion of whether it’s modern or fossilized. Mako maybe? The second tooth I’m just not sure on an ID. Tip is broken off. Both of these were found this week in the surf at Myrtis Beach, SC.

    Snake head? Thunderbird?

I found these in sherburne county, MN in a farmers field shortly after they began turning the earth to build housing. I think one looks like a snake head or?? The other looks to have carvings of a thunderbird possibly and possibly a Phoenix? Driving me crazy. Help

    Help, T-Rex digested tooth ID

Hello everyone, This is my first time posting on here and I’m very new to fossil collecting. I’ve just spent [money] on a fossil and I feel like I might have made a mistake because I didn’t do my research fully. The T rex tooth is from a reputable online seller. I would really appreciate everyone’s opinion as I’m still learning? Also what are your thoughts about the enamels erosion and it’s possible link to digestion? Kind regards, Dylan Macnish

  19. Hi all! I'm a hobby hunter who normally visits Penn Dixie near Buffalo NY for my fossils where they tell me what everything is if I can't ID it myself. But my mom went for a hike recently in our creek (Groveland, Livingston County, NY, USA) and came back with these three fossils. At least, we're pretty sure they're fossils! I'm sorry that the measurements are in inches, my mom doesn't have anything with metric measurements on it. Each square is 1inch (~2.5cm) I tried to give her the best instructions to take pictures like the pinned post, and this is what I got lol. I'm going to attach them each to separate messages so they don't get all jumbled. Here's the first one:

    A few Missouri unknowns

These are some of my new finds from a roadcut in Fenton Missouri that I recently heard about. I mostly find crinoid pieces (including a few Platycrinites), fenestrate bryozoans and some Archimedes. I'm not sure what the larger fossil is in the first picture. I'm thinking a plate of a large crinoid but I'm probably wrong. The next two I'm not convinced are worth noting. I don't know if they're part of a calcite vein/geode-like structure or very weathered fossils.

    Odd tooth

This one looks different from the rest of my collection. I’m hoping it’s something unusual like the last one you identified for me. Thanks TOPBOTTOMSIDE
  22. Hi everyone. I found this at high tide washed up on a beach in west mersea island, Essex recently. I know that this area and up towards Walton on the Naze is London clay and forms part of the red crag formation which dates back to the Pliocene period. The tide was pushing in from East to West at the time. I’m uncertain as to what animal (presuming herbivore) it is or if the tooth is complete. could anyone identify this for me please and if so is this a fossil from around Pliocene era or just part of a fresh carcass that’s ended up in the sea. There is no agricultural grazing within the area in which any livestock could have wandered off and ended up getting onto the beach and drowning. I can only upload two photos due to data size so will try to add the rest via linked threads (any other suggestions on how to upload all 6 pics at once would be appreciated) thank you for any help you can give.

    I've got no clue

Good day everybody, I've had a pretty hard time figuring out what it is I am looking it so I thought I'd ask around here. The specimens was found in Agua de Medeiros, Portugal and both pieces are about 6 cm wide. The 2 fossils are not from the same creature/plant because I found them apart from eachother but they do seem to be from the same species. Both of them seem pretty weathered so its hard to get a good identifaction on them but I'm curious to see if any of you know anything about what it can be.

    Single Shark tooth

Hi Received this tooth as a present a long time ago, but i never really knew which shark it was from. My guess it's a Carcharias cuspidata, but i'd like to hear someone elses opinion on it.
