Please help me come up with ideas for a paleontology project
Daniel Fischer posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hello fellow paleontology nerds, I would like to get some help coming up with ideas for a paleontology project. I am learning in a special class in school where we learn electronics, coding and biology. I am now in 11th grade and we are starting to work on our finale project. The project needs to include electronics and coding and it also has to be a solution to some kind of a problem in the world. We have a bunch of teachers to help us, a ton of electronic parts(sensors, resistors, cables, whatever we want as long as it's not too expensive) , 3D printers to use and over a year to work on it. It's a big deal and there are a lot of possibilitys. This is the part where I need your help. I decided I want to create my project in the field of paleontology because I am very intrested in paleontology and the only thing that ever annoyed me about it is that I could only learn things but never put my knowledge to use so I guess this is my chance. My original idea was to make a small range GPR to help with fossil prep but the parts to build an accurate GPR were too expensive so I need a new idea. Since the people here are some of the most skilled and knowledgeable people in the field I figured you might have some paleo-problems for me to try and solve and maybe even ideas for solutions. So thank you for reading this far and if you have any problem or ideas for me please drop them in the comments;) -
I'm here in Huntsville Alabama visiting my father for two weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on roadcuts or locations to hunt in for any general fossil types. I'm not looking at any specific Era or anything like that, just fossils. I've done research of my own, and have some locations down, but I'd like to get the word of some locals or others who've hunted this state successfully. Thank you.

Hi all Mrs Rico and I spotted a vintage goods shop yesterday and thought we look around. I then spotted a very nice filling cabinet for £40 I do think it is a good buy. Today I felted the draws and cut the base of and add some casters. I have added a couple of fossils in just to try it out. I may make some deviders later. It only good for narrow fossil but I have a lot of them. Thanks for looking cheers Bobby

Anatomically accurate fossils in the shape of letters in the Google Logo
MeargleSchmeargl posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Being a highschool student, I am eligible for the Doodle 4 Google contest (https://doodles.google.com/d4g/). I already know good and well what'll inspire me (pretty self-explanatory by my being on this form), and I want to find anatomically accturate fossils that resemble the Google logo letters. I need the following: G: Uppercase G x2 O: 2 unique specimens that resemble Os (can just be circular) g: Lowercase G l: Lowercase L e: Lowercase E I will consider any recommendations for any letters. If I get somewhere in this contest, I will make sure to provide updates!- 26 replies

Hi fossils friends, I have a collection exclusively based on Permian and Triassic Cephalopods. At the moment, I have around 400 pieces (Ammonoïds and Nautiloïds), but all is tidied up in cardboards. (Not place enough). Later, my wish would be to display my collection in an original way. I would not only put fossils on shelves. Maybe recreate for the differents foundplace a setting with rocks/sand/wood ... Anyone has an idea ? Here are a few examples of my cardboards. Thanks a lot by advance. Gilles

I will be heading to Fayetteville NC in March. Any ideas on good sites to explore for some fossils? I am not set on a particular time period, and will have a rental car to drive some and can stay in other locations. Thanks in advance!!

I found this on the shore of a lake. At first I thought it was a petrified mushroom. It looks very similar to a mushroom. But, someone mentioned it could possibly be a horn coral. I really have no fossil knowledge so I'm just interested in what this possibly could be. It's very cool looking.

When you find fossils, how do you clean them? I want a way that won't harm them in any way, shape, or form. Most of my specimens have sand in crevices. Any ideas? I did check out some books from my school library, but they're VERY old books and they suggest gasoline for some and to paint the fossils to make them stand out. I didn't think this was modern protocol lol.
