    Mottled

Found this in beach gravel while on lunch break.

    Fish Fossil ?

Found in North Central Maine on a beach in Caribou Lake. Water level was down about 12', but a 6' drop would have exposed this fossil. I think it might be a fish, showing a backbone and ribs, but could also be a plant. This measures 6" by 4".

    Fossil Find - Maine

Found a fossil combing the beach in Lubec, Maine. I search the beaches in the area all the time looking for things of interest. A few hundred yards down the beach from our home I know of a large fossil leaf on a huge boulder but that boulder is never moving so I've never collected it or any other fossil in the area. Old U.S. Geological texts state that there are fossils in the area. This past weekend I actually found something that I could collect and it was just up the beach from my summer home. Being a scuba diver/ underwater photographer I knew exactly what this was. I'm fairly certain it's a trace fossil of a starfish. The area was covered by glaciers and most rocks a e smoothed over so I'm amazed this survived. Alan
  4. Rockwood

    Ordovician odity

I think the best introduction would be to say it was found in the same rocks as this post. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/54804-one-more-try/
  5. Rockwood

    Sectioned something

Is this a creature, colony, or just a collection of broken pieces ? The first shot is an overview from the top, and the others are of both sides.
  6. Rockwood

    Cup shape

I've found a few of these now in lower paleozoic (likely Devonian) glacial outwash, but this one has some of the body fossil intact. Does anyone recognize it now ? Top center is the external mold that it was exposed from.

    Good Fossil sites?

I live in Los Gatos, CA and have explored all the fossil locations I know of nearby, mostly capitola. I'm traveling to the east coast over the summer - I will be spending two weeks in New York, NY, about a week in New Harbor ME, and several days in Milford, PA. It would be great if you could recommend some sites nearby! Thanks
  8. I found this fossil while hiking on an island beach on the coast of Maine. Please help me identify what it is and how old it may be. Also I am interested in advice on how to expose more of the fossil from the rock. Thanks for looking and helping. Please let me know if more pictures are needed.

A Few Misc. Fossils Of Mine.

Almost all of my fossils have come from Wisconsin. A few from Utah, Florida, Maine and Illinois. I have never purchased any. These are all my personal finds. To me it is so amazing how life from sooo long ago has been preserved in such a way that we will be able to appreciate these finds forever! When I look through the gallery's here and see all the amazing dinosaur heads and other fantastic specimens I feel so jealous and awe-struck of the fantastic finds we all have. These are just a few cool finds. I don't have time to post them all. lol Enjoy!
  10. Rockwood

    Hydrozoan ?

Quite likely Silurian, from The Forks turbidite.
  11. I live in Maine. I was walking by a small river and saw something that looked like a bone. So I picked it up. It was heavier than rock should be. There was also a larger rock that was up river and it had odd indentations on it. The larger rock was probly 2x2 feet . It almost looked like someone might have used it to ground grains of some sort on it.I wish I had gotten pictures of the larger rock. I am wondering if I did find a petrified bone and if maybe it was used as a tool to hammer or grind things many later on?
