Found this a while back on a landsite I was wondering if its worth taking out of the rock or if its better to use it as a display piece. Along with if anyone has any idea of what it could be, I think its a whale ear-bone or a tortoise leg spur. It for sure would have that bone valley blue in any case.

Hello, So I found this while at work on a rubber roof in Iowa. For those who don't know, low slope rubber roofs are often secured to the building by placing a heavy layer of rock over all the rubber weighing it down, allowing a roof system to be installed without the need of many gallons of glue to adhere it. I'm lucky enough to be in Iowa where the rock we use can contain Lake Superior Agates and various other fossils and neat stuff the earth has produced. I've taken thousands of rocks home over a nearly 20yr career installing roofs. Mostly Lakers but also some unique things I haven't been able to identify. The thing in the picture is one of them. It looks like it was possibly carved by a person as the lines and divots seem deliberate in my opinion however I know nature does pretty wild things especially when given hundreds or thousands of years to do so. I thought maybe it could be some type of ancient currency but really I have know idea. No theories I'm confident in anyways. I was hoping someone here had seen something similar and could give me some info on what it is or possibly could be. Maybe it's nothing interesting or maybe it's something really great but either way I've been itching to find out for several years now. Any help or info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Found this in Coalinga, California. I haven’t been able to find anything to help identify it. Feels like glass but doesn’t look like it.

Found around or near Siskiyou County Far Northern California. The largest looks like fossilized crystals, the next largest seems like fossilized shells and even a fuzzy thing growing in it, the rock definitely has what looks like the shell of something and then there is a white brown rock. Im not a collector just want to know what these are and if people would be interested in them. thanks for any information.

Hi everyone, newbie here. I was walking through the woods along a creek in upstate New York and found this rock in the creek. I've never seen anything like it, so thought I'd show it here and see if anyone can figure out what it is. It's about 12" high. I'm thinking it may be a rock full of fossils, but I surely don't want to break it open because I don't know what I'm doing, and don't want to destroy it. I've also searched on the internet for a couple hours and didn't find anything that resembles this

New to the forum and wanted to start a thread on hagstones. But first I figured it'd be good to see if there already was one. Other than my posts, this is the only one that turned up when I searched on the term. So I am resurrecting it. About hagstones: they are rocks with naturally occurring holes in them. They are believed to have magical powers to the FIRST finder. Some believe those magical powers remain with the rock and are transferable, but evidence is murky. "Wear it around your neck on a string to ensure good health and to heal any minor ills. Nail one above the door of your barn to stop witches souring your herd's milk or taking your horses for a gallop in the night. Attach a hag stone to your bedpost to keep bad dreams away. "Jul 25, 2021 Another place said hagstones (sometimes hag stones) are difficult to find as they "choose" when to be found and by whom. Dunno about that. I've found at least forty in my driveway, and one recently on an out of town trip to Columbia, Illinois, in the parking area of a Hampton Inn. One yesterday in my driveway. I also discovered one I already had found actually has TWO holes all the way through it. That's gotta be super effective! Don't remember when I found it, but I bet the next few days were unusually blessed. This is yesterday's find. Also found a poor excuse of a fossil, and this hagstone appears to have a fossil of some small critter piece in it, though it's such a good hagstone that's where it would be housed. I was feeling so lucky yesterday, what with the hagstone find and discovery of a previous find having two holes, I almost cashed in my deferred compensation account and bought lottery tickets. But once my heart stopped pounding I thought better of it. Made me then think maybe this latest hagstone brought bad luck, which I, fortunately, did not fall victim to. I noticed one of the earlier posters was going in search of hagstones. One cannot do that successfully. If one's goal is specifically to find hagstones, they will not cooperate. They will only allow themselves to be found as part of another search, like a general search for interesting rocks. If you even think "Time for another hagstone find" you will not be successful.
