@GeschWhat had the opportunity to join us in this hunt, but requested a picture of my find instead. To appease her request today, I hastily put this report together: @RandyB and his lovely wife are currently on a 2-3 week fossil tour of the western US and I volunteered to provide them with a little fossil hunting during a rest period on their way west. We had a wonderful time, maybe chatting as much as fossil hunting during their short break from driving. We were in the middle of dairy country and the smells of fresh cut alfalfa mixed in with a little "coprolite" permeated the air. To show their appreciation for my time, I was gifted a few fossils. Cretaceous ferns and shark teeth. THANK YOU!!! Randy and his wife (see, I told you I would forget your name) are such a lovely couple, and I love it that both husband and wife like to fossil hunt together. While scouting the area ahead of their arrival, I stumbled on this stromatolite that I would love to set in my back yard as a table. This site has all of the normal Ordovician fossils which "Randy's wife" concentrated on. But I sensed ahead of time that Randy had an interest in finding a trilobite and he was successful!!!! Notice the X. It marks Randy's honey hole!! Don't tell him I showed you. A close up of his trilobite: A nice complete roller of an unknown trilobite to me, to go with countless pygidiums and cephalons of many species. @piranha Not bad for a few hours hunting. Here are a few more from this site, unfortunately, some found after their departure. Isotelus? Hopefully more embedded in the matrix. This is going home to Pennsylvania. This unknown specimen was found too late to send it with: I just noticed in the last photo something bumpy below the trilobite. An eye? Next is a Cerarurus?? Unfortunately, bit weathered. This site is where I found my complete Dolichoharpes reticulatus so it was surprising another great find came my way. Not nearly as rare but absolutely complete. A Thaleops ovata. Both points on the cephalon are there and the genial spine on one side perfect, the other side hopefully embedded in the matrix. I will have this one professionally prepped to ensure the front of the trilobite can be displayed properly.

I recently broke open a few slabs of rock I took home with me from Rickard Hill Road in Schoharie the last time I was there. The rock was very crystalline and hard to break and there weren’t a ton of fossils inside. I did manage to find a couple of trilo-bits that were very well preserved and very detailed. One of these bits I’m having a bit of trouble identifying. I’m almost certain it’s a trilobite pygidium but it looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The great preservation makes the details of the shell stand out. It is around 1cm long and wide.

Hi Help … can anyone identify this trilobite. As a geology teacher, I was given this specimen long ago by a student/ parent. Unfortunately I do not know where it was sourced , & therefore have little clue to it’s possible name, let alone the stage or series of strata it came from. It is set in a dark grey shale (bit like Hope Shale ??) with some very very fine quartz grains in the matrix. It looks a bit like a Cambrian Ogygopsis, but this species is not found locally in Shropshire/ mid Wales. Can you suggest an ID.

Aloha! Planning a short trip to California before I move further away, I was always fascinated by fossils. Are there any dig sites in California that rent out tools? I would love to find a trilobite or ammonite! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Made a trip last week to try my luck at a local Wenlockian spot. It's the type of locality where you must suffer and work hard to find good fossils and sometimes leave empty handed. A good stress reducer. Prep Illaenoides triloba, measures 5cm Thanks for looking and stay safe during these troubled times.

Found this while splitting some slabs I brought home from an outcrop of the Maquoketa Group (Upper Ordovician) in Illinois. Started a bit of prep work but figured I'd try to see what I'm dealing with before going any further. My completely uneducated guess would be a lichid pygidium or something of the sort?

Today I decided to revisit a stream exposure of the Upper Ordovician Maquoketa Group in northern IL. I believe these outcrops are all Brainard Shale, which is the second highest member of the Maquoketa in Northern Illinois. The olive-gray shales exposed at the base of the outcrops are packed with Tentaculites, and the few times I've been here I've always searched for those. Today I wanted to explore more of the creek and see what else I could find. The stream was running pretty fast but wasn't too high, despite all the recent rain. Shale and dolomite outcrop for quite a distance along the stream, although the water is usually too high to get to many of them. I probably won't come back until the water level drops quite a bit so I can wade through, the stream isn't super deep. The stream runs near shops and well-traveled footpaths, so to be respectful I don't hammer here. That makes it a little tough since most rock faces are highly weathered and covered with vegetation, but some nice things can still be found. Water-worn brachiopods are common sights, though rarely worth collecting.

Thaleops trilobite cephalon from North-central New York

I found this last year in a secret location in Ellisburg, New York. It is a cephalon of the trilobite species Thaleops sp. Even though it is not a complete trilobite, it is still one of my nicer finds. I believe it is from the Trenton Group (Ordovician). I may not be right but I think this is a fairly uncommon trilobite species. I’ve found a lot of Isotelus partials but only one of these.

More lockdown activity - and i thought i was out of trilos...

Hi all. Here s my second round of lockdown fossiling. Went back to my dear brittany trilos. I thought i had none to process left, but somehow i was wrong. Some are recent finds (2 weeks before lockdown), some are more storage finds during reorganisation process. Some hardly need no work, for some others it was a different story. So lets start with a bunch of ectillaenus giganteus. regards

Hello, and thanks to everyone who helped with my last trilobite that I had inquired about. I had a bad feeling about it from the start, so I wasn’t surprised that it turned out to be mostly fake. I have a few more trilobites here that I’ve acquired over the years that I was hoping to get some more opinions on, and if possible maybe get the species identified, as not all of them were identified when I bought them. I'll start with just this one for now (I was going to post more, but I seem to have reached some file limit and can't post any more photos in this thread). It is about six inches outstretched. I am certain that it is at least partially real, as there is some good eye detail, but there is also some very obvious restoration work on one of the eyes, which indicates that at least some portion of the fossil is not original, and I was wondering if anyone can say which parts of this trilobite are original fossil and which are not. Also, there is a split in the rock which divides the fossil in half at about the point where the cephalon meets the thorax (it looks further down from the bottom of the matrix, but from the top that’s where the crack is), so I suspect that this may be a composite. Thank you

Hello, I d like to know if someone would trade unpreped crab nodules. I mostly have french trilobites to trade. Some echinoid also . Some albian minicrabs carapaces. I post those 2 first. Ill post more later . The roller is Colpocoryphe rouaulti, the other one is a small Ectillaenus giganteus. Regards
