Hi all, please be careful whenever you purchase Chinese vertebrate fossils or dinosaur eggs, especially turtles and birds. While some of these may look laughably fake, a search on purchase history reveals that these fossils have been sold over and over again. No prize for guessing which auction site these fossils were sold. I notice three devious techniques used by these sellers: 1) Issuing a certificate, claiming it's been examined by experts etc - Certs mean nothing, unless they are provided by actual museums 2) Selling some real fossils - I've been monitoring this seller's listings for years. Every now and then, a real one shows up. His victims may have bought something genuine from him before, and assumed all his listings are good. 3) Selling replicas alongside his fake fossils - By outright proclaiming some of his listings as replicas, this seller creates the impression that he is a responsible seller who would inform people about the true nature of their purchases. "The best lies have an element of truth" Remember, if you aren't absolutely sure of your purchase, post some pics here on TFF. We have experts who would help you if they can. Hey guys, A friend of mine just bought this turtle skull from Khouriba, Morocco and was wondering if it had any reparations/restorations or fake parts. There is one eye socket considerably larger than the other one but I don’t quite know what it means. I don’t see any very obvious red flags but this type of fossil is very often faked. What do you guys think? Here are some pics. Thank you for any input Regards.

Went out to the Badlands last week for some fossil hunting. Little bits of turtle shell are a common sight and the folks with me were in turtle fragment city, but this find was a little unusual. Take a look at what is turning into a whole tortoise plastron!

I found this interesting piece on a beach that was very popular for finding shark's teeth. The specimen was found on the gulf side of Florida and is approximately 2.5 cm in length. There appears to be rings on the lip of the fossil and the "tooth" area appears to be made in flat symetrical layers in two separate stacks. A passerby on the beach described it as a tooth that had been completely worn down while to me it more resembles a bit of a turtles shell. any guestimates are appreciated!

Hello I found this sticking out of a wall in Gonzales county. The formation present is called “reklaw”. I often find ice age fossils from this area. Thanks

Hello, I am new the this site and a part time collector. I own items that I have found in different areas of the state and others I have purchased from other areas. My collector has natural objects ( Animal Parts) and man made ( Points). I know some, but I am not familar with the different classifications of fossils. I am not sure if this piece is a agatized fossil or some type of concretion. All comments are appreciated. I have some property in eastern Newberry county. I saw this rock in the creek and brought it home with me. After I cleaned the dirt off, I noticed it does have form and textures as well as 2 different prostrutions that look and feel different from the rest of the object. I have other fossils, like Mammoth jaw bones with teeth that are lighter than this object and large petrified logs that seem similar to this object in question. This is a fossil I found on the bank of a creek in southern Indiana. I’ve long suspected it to be a small turtle shell due to the pattern on the top side. In addition, there are many nicely preserved patterns on the sides of and underneath the outer shell. I think this could be tissue or something that was fossilized with the creature. I’m no expert, so I’d love to know from the community

Hello forum, Recently I went to Walton on the Naze and I found a nodule on the beach that contained many fossil, some quite remarkable containing a shark tooth, scales, bones, fossilized wood and many more things to excavated. At first I was not going to pick it up ,as it was heavy (20lb to be exact). But I was upset to find out that I walked past a large megalodon tooth that someone else picked up. So here I am and now have this lump of rock, I have soak it for some time, to hopefully stop or slowdown pyritization. Now in the next few days I will be starting my prepping journey. Will anyone be able to give me advice, as I'm only using Dremel's, I wont be able to afford any thing else as it will not be in my budget. Opinion WANT TO REMOVE THE FOSSIL WOOD! THE SHELL ARE CHALKY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO TO STOP THIS FROM FALLING APART? AND PREVENTING PYRITIZATION WITH NAIL POLISH OR CLEAR VARNISH ? Here are some pictures out of many.

Hi everyone! I made a trip with family out to McFaddin beach on Memorial Day (the side closest to High Island). Artifacts and vertebrate fossils wash up here from the Pleistocene to the Holocene. There's some debate as to where they are coming from - they aren't in the Beaumont clay directly below the beach. A great webpage about the site is here: https://texasbeyondhistory.net/mcfaddin/ We found lots of fossilized arthropod burrows, some nice conch shells and beach glass (not fossils!), a piece of turtle scute, and a few bones. It was fun, and we saw no nudists on the beach - perhaps they thought it was too busy? We also found two items that we would love to have help from FF to ID.... The first item we think may be a fragment of a sloth tooth - this is only from perusing the fossil forum. Or ? At first we thought it might be plant, not animal, but the rectilinear shape of one side made us think twice. The other appears to be similar in form and size to a horse tooth, but no tooth enamel on the one end - just holes (apologize for blurriness of end photos). ??? Did the enamel fall off? Or is it something else? Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi everyone, I got this interesting peripheral turtle shell from the Late Campanian Wenonah formation of NJ. It is not reworked and seems to be IDable. It also has some interesting shark predation marks on the top of the first pic. It is about 2.75” X 2.25” @non-remanié Thanks for any help!

So I found a turtle fossil and just want to know a little more about it and the rock inside it.

Found this along the coast in South Texas. Completely mineralized. It measures approximately 3x3 inches and 1/2 inch thick. Sea turtle?

I decided on a whim to go fossil hunting yesterday. I took off on the 2 hr drive to get to my favorite area the North Sulphur River Texas. I jumped off in three creeks to see footprints everywhere. I decided to go try a creek I spotted a few years ago but never tried. It paid off. I found my first NSR echinoid after 4yrs of heavy hunting. Echinoids are quite rare at NSR. I also found a really cool Pachydiscus ammonite with an Inoceramid on it. I think I"ll try that creek again in the future.

Fun day on the North Sulphur River Texas. We saw some cool wildlife. Here's my finds. A nice mix of pleisosaur, mosasaur, enchodus, shark, turtle, horse, coprolite and artifacts.

Good evening, I found 2 small bones on the beach in Tampa, Florida. The first one looks like a toe or finger bone of what animal? (6 views) The second looks like a turtle or sea bird bone? (3 views) Ruler is in inches. Thanks Fossil Friends!

In person this is a truly lovely fossil that I found at Cherry Grove, SC 4/5/20. I took 30 pictures and these were the best. My guess is that it is a soft shell turtle double/triple vertebra. Does anyone have a better guess?

Hi all! I’ve been on this site before, asking about a vertebrae I found. I figured since y’all were so kind and welcoming maybe you would help me again! I was walking along the Myrtle Beach, SC this morning and saw this strange looking rock. Washed it off, and I’m positive it’s not just a rock. It looks like a turtle shell to me, but I’m not so sure. as for dimensions, I didn’t have a ruler on me, but an estimate is 3 inches long by an inch and a half at the thick end. I’ll post more photos if necessary, but it has a size limit for the post. Thanks again guys!
