Explored another new North Texas creek. Not many fossils but great for artifacts. We did manage to find one beat up Mosasaur vert, shark teeth and a Gastropod. 10 hour hike. :/

Hi guys! I recently found this bone in an Island in the Savannah River, really close to Savannah. There where a lot of pottery shards near by with punctuations and patterns so I'm assuming it's some kind of artifact. It measures 7.10" inches the holes are .0011 inches Note the "cut-like" incisions on the broken part and also the two holes (they connect to the inner part of the bone, so if you pour water on one end it will come out of the holes) at first I though they where foramen (where arteries go into the bones) but they look like drilled and most foramen go diagonally into the bone. Here's a few of my finds from my last couple of Northeast Texas creek hunts. It's been pretty slow but I'm trying again tomorrow. I did find a killer Ginsu shark tooth and cool fish vert with partial process. I didn't know what the little penny trinket thing was until an older gentleman told me lol. The one vert with four pics is Pleistocene but I have no clue from what. We did find a large nest of cottonmouths where two males were fighting for a large female. We saw herds of wild hogs and had quite the kayak adventure. One kayak trip was 5 miles deep in the woods where we had to go over 7 log piles with the kayaks. I'm also unsure what the little white tooth is with multiple pics by the trinket. It has thick enamel whatever it is. Hope you enjoy the pics.

I found this in a creek in Claiborne County, MS. It is bone and it is petrified. The smooth, straight sides are what is perplexing and even more so the "spiral on the one side. You can see the "spiral" in the photographs. This may be something comman and not man made. Can anyone help me with identifying this? Is it Native American? Photo of the "back"

I am having immense difficulty identifying this item with any amount of certainty.I found this in a small creek/ditch in a very rural part of Jefferson County, Mississippi. Several pottery shards, flakes were found within just a few yards of this piece. It appears to be from quartzite. I foolishly scrubbed this item like there was no tomorrow in order to remove a thick layer of black buildup from its years in the creek. I hope you will find time to offer some input. Not many fossils on this hunt but plenty of artifacts. Did manage to find one good size mosasaur vert and one pristine shark tooth. I ran into a mother hog and her babies, numerous other herds of hogs, snakes and more spiders than you can count. I also sunk in mud & water up to my chest and I'm 6ft 4 lol. North Texas creek hunt.

I had a fantastic day yesterday afternoon, visiting and viewing artifacts and fossil private collections from the Peace River watershed. I was hosted by some true experts who also had fantastic collections spanning the last 30-40 years and I was accompanied by some TFF friends. Gorgeous and rare artifacts, a lots of Bone Valley Megs, rare Peace River fossils and even had time in the mid afternoon to practice toss lances with a Atatl stick into Archery targets. A cold icy draft after the exercise and a bunch of good memories. I never take enough photos, but did promise to attempt an identification. So, a native artifact sticking through a section of backbone. My question is which animal has a vertebrae section that looks like this.... Sorry about photos -- but you do get to see some reed and willow "arrows" with replaceable darts in the background. All comments appreciated. Jack

Fun North Sulphur River Texas hunt. The big Tylosaur tooth and coprolite were my favorite finds of the day.

I found a very nice variety of items while hunting my new favorite creek. I think the formation is Eagle Ford. I found a nice ammonite bed that I"ll start checking after a good rise. I had to leave the 50 lb + ammonite until I can get a boat or raft in there to float it out 2 miles. The old US military button was my favorite find of the day. The button is 1902 or later but still very old and makes you wonder how it ended up there? Two of the shark teeth are pretty big.

I had a great day the North Sulphur River. I found my first red mosasaur tooth and 2 Native American Drills which are very rare to find in that are. Numerous other shark teeth, mosasaur verts and a cool old cork style bottle in the pic.

I tried out a new secluded north Texas creek while artifact hunting with a friend. He told me the creek didn't have fossils but I managed to prove him wrong and find a really cool piece of Protostega plastron, a small Mosasaur vert and a section of ammonite :). Wild hogs were everywhere there.

Long hike at NSR. I did manage to find my first turtle vert and Stratodus palatine bone. I love the colors on the little Mosasaur tail vert. It was a beautiful day and animals were on the move. More pics.

It was my first time hunting in awhile due to my crazy work schedule. Since we haven't had a good rain I figured it would be picked over. I found some really nice Mosasaur verts, coprolite and my best Clidastes jaw section yet with multiple replacement teeth showing. The fish vert is from one of the large Cretaceous fish probably Xiphactinus. The artifacts, Gastropods, Enchodus tooth, Mastodon tooth enamel and other Pleistocene tooth were a nice bonus. You can see little bones in all the coprolite. I will hit it again next week for sure.

I found this bone fossil fragment with a what looks like a hieroglyph on a Brazoria County, Texas beach the other day. I thought you all might like to see it. I've been studying this piece since I found it on the hightide. It looks to be Paleolithic vs Neolithic. The Paleolithic Era (or Old Stone Age) is a period of prehistory from about 2.6 million years ago to around 10,000 years ago. My conclusion. It is ancient and authentic bone art. The bone fragment is 1.25×1.25 and .25 thick. It looks like a hieroglyph shark to me. The engraving is about 1/8" deep and the entire fragment has a nice patina. After looking at it in 4 different orientations, the 2nd picture (head left) seems to be the best orientation because the fins are longer. I also have a picture to show the depth of the engraving. There aren't any other visible marks on the fragment. I've searched thru a lot of hieroglyphs, cave paintings and other bone art and I've not found anything fish/shark or water/sea related. I'm posting this fragment on a paleo artifacts site today for more professional opinions. In closing..... I'm also still looking hard for the rest of the bone/story. It seems like it might be a pretty good read.....) Your thoughts? Found this in the dirt miles down a secluded train track. At the time I thought it looked like the ribs of a small rodent but as I did some research it seems to be similar to the attached picture of a hadrosaur tooth, but I'm no expert. Also.. I found this odd piece of what looks like pottery just in the same vicinity. Any guesses? fossil guy website hadrosaur tooth example my find:pottery?

I only had 4 hrs to hunt today but I still managed to find one large thick piece of fossil turtle shell, possible fish fossil bone, mosasaur vert and 3/4 of a point. Such a pretty day.

12 hr NSR hunt on a beautiful day. I found a nice variety of fossils & artifacts. My buddy made friends with a couple of copperheads.

Hi all just for fun I was wondering has anyone on this site got a bucket list of rare specimens they love to have in their collector cabinets of curiosities. Also have you made any of those dreams come true by acquiring them. I think it would be great to know what wonderful, rare and fascinating objects inspire a collector's imagination. Some items off my bucket list too start with. 1. Stegosaurus Dorsal Plate, the most iconic part of this Jurassic dinosaur (need). 2.Excavated animal remains or bug from La Brea tar pits (need). 3. Dimetrodon fossil . ( got a beautiful claw). 4.Libyan desert glass (c.28,500,000 years old) (need) 5. Lunar rock (need... but if anyone has any spare, I will pay the postage LOL ) just the start of a list

Muddy and cold 5 mile hike. I was doing good until my boots went underwater miles from my vehicle and the temp started dropping. The Mosasaur tooth and Gary Point made my day.
