I was curious what this might be. I am under the assumption it’s some marine mammal. However I’ve found nothing remotely similar as far as dolphins go, so your guess is as good as mine

I'm a commercial fisherman and caught this in my net about 75 miles offshore of NJ, USA in 40 fathoms of water. I was wondering if it is identifiable? Thank you.

Hi to forum members. I'm new here. I'm not a fossil hunter but love reading about Earth's deep history and occasionally come across simple fossils. I live in eastern North Carolina, about 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The fossil pictured was found at the site of an old quarry. The pattern looks a bit like coral, but I really don't know. The rock is about 7 inches across. Suggestions about what it might be, and age?

I found the object below recently while on a non-fossiliferous beach on Maryland's eastern shore (Atlantic Ocean side). It's not a fossil, though I'm hoping someone here might know what it is. The pointy end on what I'm calling the "top" is translucent, hard, and looks toothy. My first thought was possibly a dermal denticle, though I'm not sure the tripod "base" is right for that. The whole thing is light but fairly solid--i.e., while I haven't wanted to break it, it doesn't bend when I apply moderate pressure. Any ideas on what this is?

Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to identify this bone found years ago at the New Jersey shore. My dad isn't sure of the exact year, but it was found in Wildwood and has been hanging around the house for as long as I can remember. We have always assumed it was a whale bone, but haven't been able to confirm. It's about 20 centimeters long, and it isn't completely flat but curves up at one end. I included a side view to show how it curves. Any input at all would be great! Thanks! Jenn

I’ve been around the scalloping industry for over 40 years and this is the only one I’ve seen . it has a flat side , a round side and the hinge area So it is either sand that turned into a rock like a mold or it a petrified scallop ?????

Can anyone identify this what type of marine life this skull is part of? I found it today along the East Coast of United States - Atlantic Ocean Spoon in photo for scale. The strange up raised markings on top are perplexing. Type of Eel perhaps? It's wet from me rinsing it in sink. Thank you!

This is the size of a 50 cent piece for those familiar with that coin. It measures about 2 inches in diameter - it's a bit oblong however. I can supply more photos if needed. Someone might identify this immediately with just the 2 photos. This was found recently along the Atlantic Coast shoreline along an outgoing tide after a storm. It's the shape of a top of a mushroom, even with the bottom having an a small indent in center. It's texture feels like pumice, and is light in weight like pumice. As you can see the tissue (or sheet) layers upon layers of holes that create this round small structure. Thank you.

This was found on the Jersey Shore - a beach on the western Atlantic. I unfortunately don't have a scale, but it measures 3 inches x 4 inches (7.6 cm x 10.2 cm). Any idea what it is?- 16 replies
