  1. Ok a website I was looking at is selling what it claims to be pieces of Brachiosaurus Bone. I cannot post photos because I would incriminate the seller, but the piece looks genuine enough. What I want to know is the likelihood of it actually being Brachiosaurus. By my understanding their fossils are quite rare so even a small fragment of the genuine article would not be cheap, these ones are offered at 19 dollars. According to their information, their pieces comes from a Brachiosaurus femur from the Morrison Formation in Utah. The Morrison Formation is the right, and as I understand only, plac
  2. Hi there. I am brand new to this hobby and have been making some purchases on online but I am concerned about authenticity. Here are some pics of fossils I am considering. Does anybody see any obvious issues? I know it is impossible to say for sure if they are genuine from a few pics but any pointers would be much appreciated!
  3. Hello to everyone! This is my first discussion on this forum. I have just started to collect dinosaur fossils and I wanted to learn from all of you. Specially to identify a real fossil from a fake one, if that is possible. I have found an interesting fossil that I would like to purchase if it is authentic, but I have several doubts. The fossil is an Iguanodon Jaw (see pictures attached) discovered in Isle of Wight, UK. The dealer says that this bone belonged to an iguanodon that would have lived approximately 120 million years ago. They also told me that the jaw has been restored from two
  4. Came across this one and wondered if it was fake or doctored. I have my suspicions - for one, the legs look disproportionate, but I wouldn't know. I wouldn't mind having one of these if it's real and the price is right. This is the only pic available... maybe not big enough to tell anything for sure? but I know some of you have a pretty good eye!
  5. Hi All Just another novice here looking for some thoughts on whether a Keichosaurus is real or fake or compounded. Any thoughts welcome.
  6. Hi All, I've purchased these two items and am wondering about authenticity. Can anyone provide any thoughts?
  7. Could experts share the primary indicators to check for regarding authenticity of a Mosasaurus jaw specimen? - specifically root / tooth junctures. I’m aware of the sophistication of fakes in the market. Below is a recent purchase - I’d like feedback on details to look for in verifying authenticity. Thank you!
  8. Are these replica or genuine fossil? They look like the same.
  9. I was given this around Christmas. It had a gray "dusty" coating. Upon cleaning/prepping it now looks like this. Here's what makes me question it's authenticity...notice the gray matter down the middle and at the tip. Your thoughts?
  10. Hello guys, hope everybody is fine. today some doubts about the authenticity of some specimens here. At the same time, help on the correct ID of them will be apreciated. In your opinion, is this a composite or just a bad preparation? Thanks in advance, Miguel Pais
  11. Hello, i´m interested in this Nothosaurus Skeleton. But i´m not 100% sure about the authenticity. The dealer has send me photos befor the prep. I hope you can help me. Thank You, Michael
  12. Hello, I recently purchased this Canadian ammolite pendant on eBay, and I'm questioning its authenticity? It looks dark at certain angles. It only looks resplendent when exposed to a significant amount of light. thanks

    Fossilized Egg ?

I found this on a golf course in MA. It is so symmetrical and resembles other seemingly legitimate eggs here. The continuity of the surface and lack of "inclusions" make it hard for me to think it's a rock. Any thoughts ? I can send better pictures to those who may care..... Thanks. -Bill
  14. Greetings Fossil enthusiasts- My sister brought me a wonderful gift when she got home yesterday. It will always keep its sentimental value to me, but I'm curious if this fossil is real or fake? I've been looking up and down all over the internet and I have no clear cut answer so I'm hoping one of you can help me. I have a hunch it is a fake of some sort- but it's still neat nonetheless. I appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you, and have a wonderful day friends. Pictured is the specimen flipped to show both sides.
  15. I've recently bought this fossil from a seller on Instagram and these are the seller's pictures, but after some recent digging, I was introduced to the reality of counterfeit and fake ones. Does this one look real or fake? The seller doesn't have location of discovery and I've been trying to google how to learn whether it's real or fake but I haven't gotten far. Thanks for your time!!

    Gastornis eggshell ID

Hello! I bought Gastornis eggshell with certificate. I am novice so I would like to ask you if I can be certain that it is authentic Gastornis eggshell? I am asking because maybe everyone can create similar certificate and selling fake fossils. I do no know. Can you help me?
  17. Hello everyone, I am a total novice, interested in buying a spinosaurus tooth to start my collection. I have been trying to do my research into reputable online dealers. Generally I have found that a few well-known sites are recommended (paleogallery, arizona skies, indiana9fossils, etc). Recently I stumbled across a site called Fossils Meteorites and More. They also are listed under the same name as sellers on ebay. Their prices seem reasonable but I hesitate to buy without have heard anything about them. Does anyone here know of this dealer? Appreciate the help!
  18. Hi all, Recently, I bought a 5.97‘’*4.25‘’ megalodon tooth from an ebay seller. The root and enamel (if they are real) are in a fair condition while the edge is eroded and nearly all serrations are gone. It is said that the tooth is found along NC coast. I used to buy teeth from Bill and thus keep myself safe and happy from any concern about authenticity. But when I was looking for one of about 6'', I just could not afford the high-quality big teeth from megateeth.com. But now I need to think about the question whether the tooth I got is real or not and whether it is under any repair or r
