Got an ammonite as a present
Emin_kn posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone This is my first post on this forum (and the first one on this type of forums in general :)) and I am here to ask for your advice. I recently received a present from a group of friends - a beautiful (for a total amateur like myself) ammonite. I am only not entirely sure if it is real or not, and therefore would very much appreciate your opinions in this regard. The ammonite's origin is said to be in Madagascar, but it was "processed" in Italy and sold by an Italian fossil gallery. I am attaching some pics and of course I can add more if necessary. There are some qualities of this specimen that create questions regarding its authenticity, but like I said - I am a total noob, so I might be wrong about my suspicions Thanks to everyone in advance, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.- 15 replies

Hi all I've had this tooth for a couple of years now, I think it was purchased off a website [price removed as per forum rules]. I've passed it off as real but I'm not sure if it actually is because of its cheap price. Are there any signs this is a fake? Pen shown for size

Hello from Switzerland. I'll be happy to write some lines in the member introduction forum this week-end, but I must admit I need help regarding this egg asap. It'll be offered in a auction house in France next week. Provenance China, Xixian, Hunan, 6.6 inches long. I read here all the pages regarding fakes, but it's hard when you're a newbie (I'm an amber collector) regarding dino eggs.. Thanks in advance, Jacques.- 6 replies

Hi all. I just visited a Chinese mineral shop recently, and acquired this lovely 15" Keichousaurus plate. Got it for a decent price, but I have to admit there are dubious areas like the head and too-perfect tail. It is acid-prepped though, and I see calcite lines running across, so I assume these are good signs?
