I found this short-stemmed mushroom-looking thing on my favorite fossil beach in New Zealand. Any identification pointers would be much appreciated. It is very hard. The stem looks and feels agatized (or something like that) to me. I can't tell if the cap is really petrified or just really hard. A couple weeks later I found a similar mushroom-shaped thing on the same beach -- the caps are super similar, but the second one has a very long stem. I"m posting pictures of the long-stemmed one in a separate thread. Thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks everyone for running such a great forum. Went on first fossil hunting trip in Manasota Key FL (just south of Venice beach) and got a bunch of sharks teeth including some nice slightly larger ones while diving, and was able to roughly identify them from your posts. Also have some not shark / ray teeth found washed up on the beach. I wrote down the best guess I could figure but am really unsure. Appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!

My dad brought me this item that he found while walking on Indian Rocks Beach, right outside of Tampa. I find a lot of random bone chunks, sharks teeth, and fossil scutes on that beach. I'm not sure on this one and was even a little skeptical that it was a fossil at first. The "inside" of the fossil does seem porous like bone would be and there seems to be a ridge line with two compartments on either side (my thumb is inside one of the compartments in one of the pics below). The outside does have a strong line running down the top and continuing onto the bottom (similar to what I would expect to find on a turtle scute) though it is very worn. Any ideas?

Hi, I wondered if anyone could please help with the identification of this bone. It was found on St Anne's Beach in the UK. It has a claw like prominence midway down the shaft. The bone on approx 10.5cm long. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi Folks, Found this on a beach of the Island of Ischia, Italy (August 2019). Not sure what it is and, though I'd write more about what I think, I have no background or expertise...which of course is why I am here. Glad to provide any additional information if it would help. This summer I poked around on McFadden beach for about an hour...didn't have much time as I was on my way to Louisianna, and there was a hurricane coming. Wish I could have gone after the hurricane, but ah well. Found a few little things, didn't really think much of them, but finally took some photos and lo and behold....one of the pieces has bryzoans and coral on it! So is this indeed a fossil of something or is it just a rock with bryzoans and coral? I picked it up because it looked bone like, but don't really think it is bone. The next piece is just intriguing, it looks like the rind of a cantaloupe! Again, not sure if it is anything biological or just weird geological. The Third piece I was wondering if it was coprolite of just weathered hash rock. Any thoughts and idea are appreciated! Thanks! First find: Second find: Third FInd:

Can anyone identify this what type of marine life this skull is part of? I found it today along the East Coast of United States - Atlantic Ocean Spoon in photo for scale. The strange up raised markings on top are perplexing. Type of Eel perhaps? It's wet from me rinsing it in sink. Thank you!

I found this on a family vacation this August on the beach at Wildwood Crest, NJ in the ocean. It is 4.5 cm long, 2.5 cm wide and .75 cm tall. Does anyone know what this is?

Hello. I found this bone on a New Jersey Beach. I found it 2 days after a recent hurricane came through. It was not burried in the sand. At first i thought it was a dried up scuba flipper but after i "knocked"on it it sounded i realized it wasnt rubber. I have no idea what it is it was recommended by a member to come here to share it with the members they would be able to identify it. Thank you for your time I wish you all luck.

Hello all, I found this item while searching for shark’s teeth post-hurricane Dorian in Surf City, NC. I am not sure at all what it is (if anything of interest at all), but it is pretty cool. It appears to have pieces of clear glass or crystal imbedded all throughout and when I found it it had a small strand of thread wrapped around it (it ended up falling off in my pocket, although you can see what is left of the thread in the profile picture attached about half way down the item). My first thought is that it almost looks like rusted metal. I’m certainly no expert in arrowheads, but it does appear to have a similar shape. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Hello! Check out this beach weirdo! Found on the Yorkshire Coast along an ice age clay cliff-face. Looks like iron or metal wrapped around stone? Can this happen naturally and then erode like this through sea action? Weird!
