I found a remarkably well preserved bison vert in the peace river. At first I thought it was a modern bone before a positive ID. It was a stumper. Thing is, it is pretty light and did not seem to be a fossil. Question is, when did bison last roam Fl. Thanks for any input. Sorry for the other bones in pic.

Pull this guy out of a creek this morning in Frisco, Texas. I think bison - anyone know? Also, does anyone know how to date? Apparently this guy didn't get the memo on how to brush his teeth. Ha!

Hi everyone! I received this vert from the Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam. It was in a big box with many other fossils fished from the North Sea (Pleistocene). The size of the vert makes me think of rhino or bison, even possibly mammoth. I asked already on Fossiel.net and they said it could be a chest vert from a bovid or a horse. But no definitive answer came up... What do you all think? Any help appreciated, Max

Hello: This was found on the beach in North Carolina. I can't remember if I was told if this was a small horse tooth or a bison tooth. Any help is always greatly appreciated. Thank you, David

Hello there, I found these two after a good rain protruding from the bank along the same creek in Travis county. They are both around 9" long and one appears to be older than the other. Thanks for the help

Hello all, This specimen was found in a creek that cuts through Miocene through Pleistocene fossiliferous exposures. Being found in a creek, I cannot rule out this being a modern critter (unless it is indeed bison of course). I know that this specimen is an astragalus, and I think it is from one of the right legs. I see resemblance with bison astragali, but I don't know. Thanks for the help Whose astragalus?? Miocene to Pleistocene Mississippi

Found in the Peace River. Broadest part measures 3 1/2". Found some other large pieces but also found a lot of LARGE (Big Boy) turtle pieces. Will post in another post. Thanks. SO GLAD to be back in the river. Cold but definitely doable in swimsuit - and I am a Floridian that walks around with a jacket at 70 degrees!

It was an unusual hunt today. I found 2 bison horn cores 30 feet apart. I've only found 4 or 5 in hundreds of hours of hunting and then found these within 5 minutes. That's the way it goes

I recently had my brother-in-law build a display case for my bison horn. I had to move/remove a lot of fossils from the shelf to make room but it seems to display rather well.

This item was found on Kiptopeke beach, on the southern tip of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I collect skulls (not fossils), so was pretty sure this is an herbivore tooth, and bigger than a horse. It is heavy, like a stone. From poking around some, my guess at this stage would be a bison molar. Some kind of large, extinct bison, I'd much appreciate any discussion, as this is the first fossil of note that I've ever found.

Found this tooth today in northern Brown County in Nebraska. Fully mineralized along a steam bank that was eroded by heavy rains this summer. Found in a gravel layer about 8 feet below ground level

I think this is a bison horn core. I found it on the Brazos River. It seems way bigger than images found on line. The base has a 15 inch circumference and the length is about 17 inches. So, which bison is this from?

Found these in Sherman Texas in the lowest part of a formation at the bottom of a creek. In this same formation, we were pulling out small goblin shark teeth and ptychodus teeth. Trying to ID what exactly these are? Everything is preserved well, but the bone portion is super brittle. My first instinct was cow, but where we pulled it out of the formation gave me pause (and I looked up pictures of buffalo/bison, and it looks similar). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Two Bison sp. third lower molars of different age. This is the last tooth to emerge at maturity. The younger individual had not worn its teeth much . . . tooth wear has not reached the diagnostic isolated stylid. The older individual has worn its teeth enough to engage the isolated stylid. Note that the tooth of the older individual retains some cementum. In life, all the bison cheek teeth were wrapped in cementum. Being the softest of the three types of tooth components (enamel, dentin, and cementum), this exterior 'wrapper' is often lost on a fossil. Hi all, New to the forum. I'm a contemporary artist with a research based interest in Archaeology, fossils, geology, and the sort. Thought I'd introduce myself with a couple of recent finds I found pretty exciting. What really got my attention was this fossilized Bison tooth. I'm not sure how old, but judging from the petrification I'd say it's very old. There's also signs of a stylid, so I'm thinking M2 or M3 Bison tooth. I also cracked open a stone slab and found the faint plant impressions. I thought those were pretty beautiful. On the top left there's what appears to be a worked stone, possibly involved in arrow head making? Nice too meet you guys. L

Photo of the Mountain Buffalo (Bison bison montanae) skull from Ottowa Gulch Montana -- may help clarify if there is a remnant population still roaming the back country of Yellowstone Park. Living fossils would be a great find for our new mammal.
