Hi, I’m wondering if it would be a difficult task to remove the matrix/dirt layer off this carcharodontosaurid tooth. I have no experience, but might seem like a cool project? Would a dental pick, brush, and needles suffice?

Places in Texas to look for Acrocanthosaurus material.
AJ the Tyrant posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I know that Acro stuff is quite rare and hard to come by, but I was wondering what the best spots in Texas are to find such fossil material. I live in the state, so it would not be too much of an issue to travel to a spot or two to hunt for these theropod fossils. To sum it up, my question is: what are the best spots in Texas to legally hunt for and collect Acrocanthosaurus fossils/teeth (preferably without heavy duty tools or machinery)? If there are any, it would be much appreciated if you list the formation and location.- 16 replies

I have had this carcharodontosaurid tooth from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco since Christmas 2011 and it is still among my most prized fossils. I took a photo of the cross section today and noticed that it's a rather fat tooth. There are other old pictures of it in my Gallery but does anyone know what tooth position such a fat Carch tooth could be? Premax, maxilla, dentary? The tooth is 7 centimeters long. Thanks in advance.

Purchased in April 2019. Due to the presence of at least two Carcharodontosaurids (Carcharodontosaurus saharicus and Sauroniops pachytholus) in the Kem Kem Beds it is labeled as Carcharodontosaurid indet. The tooth has a length of 4.5 inches (11.43 cm).

Hello everybody This here is my little story about bad fabrications and red flags and what to make the most of it. I got my hands on a 8 cm (3.15 in) Carcharodontosaurid indet. tooth from KemKem. It all started with the breaking of the tip while handling the tooth. It fell out of my hand on the table. Maybe just 3-4 cm falling, but that was enough to break the tip. I asked Matt ( @Haravex ) what to do with it and he suggested to use super glue but also mentioned the hight amount of bad glue and other junk on the tooth. His i

African T-Rex Tooth Red Flag
Troodon posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
This seller is using his words very deceptively just be careful. He's offering a large Carcharodontosaurid tooth but his listing title describes it as African T-Rex, Top 1% T-REX Tyrannosaurus and his description has similar comments. If your'e not paying attention you might think its Rex. This one is very convincing. For new collectors this species has nothing in common with T rex and it's just a marketing ploy. A very nice Carcharodontosaurid tooth but not Rex- 4 replies

A tooth with strong affinities to Carcharodontosaurids was found in Romania. Valanginian age would put it much older than those found in the Kem Kem of Morocco. Tooth looks like it's in great condition and indeed does look like one of those out of the Kem Kem.
