Tyrannosaurus rex, 2.038”, Carter Co., MT
GTS posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Fellow members, I am considering purchasing this tooth which is advertised as being a T. rex tooth from the HCF of Carter Co., MT. The seller isn’t able to provide the nearest town. The enamel isn’t perfect but I am guessing that much of the value will be in the length. I am told that there is no repair nor restoration - can anyone see any evidence that might suggest otherwise? The description also states that there is some partial root present. From research, it seems to be an average specimen as is typically found. Or perhaps somewhat above average given that most teeth found are in a worse state. Might members agree that this is a nice 2” T. rex tooth (albeit with some enamel missing) at this price point. There are better out there but those perfect examples will be well north of much more, one suspects. Thankyou in advance.- 11 replies

Pachycephalosaurus skull fragment, also known as Pachy spike cluster, from Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana. I was surprised by its weight and size when I received it. Slightly bigger than 2.5 inches diameter.

Here are two teeth from the Hell Creek formation of Carter County, Montana. Both that been Identified by others as belonging to Nanotyrannus. The first tooth is similar to the one I posted yesterday which comes from a different location. The other is a front tooth. I would appreciate any thought on taxonomy and jaw location, including yesterday's post.

Hi everyone! So, yeah. I keep going back and forth on this one. I've been told it's Nano, but the serration count seems low for Nano (23 per cm distal 25 per cm mesial) and it looks a lot thinner than it actually is on account of a piece of the base missing. That and it's really big for a Nano tooth. Dimensions in mm are 50 x 18 x 11 Dimensions in inches are 1.97 x .71 x .43 The pictures are labeled rex because that's what I though it was originally. This is just bugging me so I'd like a second (or more opinion) just to put my mind at ease once and for all.

Hi everyone, I just got this tooth from the Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana. It was labeled as Richardoestesia, so based on the curvature, I was assuming the proper ID would be cf Richardoestesia gilmorei. However, when taking some measurements, what caught my eye was that the mesial carina appeared to end 1/3 from the base, and I started to wonder if instead this tooth could possibly be Dakotaraptor. These are the measurements I was able to get: Mesial: around 5.5-6 serrations/mm Distal: around 5 serrations/mm CH: around 16.5 mm CBL: around 7 mm CH/CBL: around 2.4 The crown appears to be smooth, the base is almond shape, and I believe the denticles have rounded tips. Please let me know what you all think. Also, some of the measurements may need double checking. Thanks!
