I thought I saw one of these yesterday when I posted a different request...but, perhaps not. I was given a two boxes of rocks...this one came from Cole Hill Rd., in Central NY, and I imagine it's probably middle Devonian. The animal is located on a Horn Coral. This rock is very different from what I'm used to...so, I stopped working on it after I came across this little creature (approx. 3/16" from one tip of an "arm" to the opposite side, and stands approx. 3/32" high). In reality it looks like a very tiny Octopus. The microscope tends to make everything look flat. Thanks in advanc

I have no idea what this is...but, I've found two of them in the same rock. I've not the slightest idea on even where to start looking. The first is easy to spot(approx 1" X 1/2"), the second has a pin towards it(approx. 3/4"). Thanks Greg

I have been unable to find these two Brachiopods in my books. I would like to know if anyone can id them for me. I have to add that I "assume" the first is a Brachiopod. I have looked in Lower, Middle and upper Devonian Brachiopods of NY and also Devonian Bivalves of NY. Thanks Greg

Hello! New member needing help identifying the fossils in these rocks found in Central NY. The rocks were underneath a shed that we demolished, so we don't know for sure where they originated. We live on the Oswego River, and it's possible the rocks were sourced from the shore or river bottom. Thank you for your help!

It was suggested that the photos below are of Coral fossil cyclolite. However, I can't find any information with that name. Does anyone know what it is? Perhaps it has another name? Approx. 1/2" dia. Thanks Greg

Hello all! I found this pretty cool bryozoan back in July and I decided to give it a prep. Its really easy matrix to work with so its good practice for someone like me who’s only done a handful of preps. Like my past preparations, this will all be done manually using mainly safety pins. Fenestella sp. ? Middle Devonian Hamilton Group Moscow Formation Windom Shale DSR, Lebanon, NY Enjoy!

Ok, foolishly I was hoping that the Limestone would "pop" off the front of this Trilobite. But, I've run into a problem. At first I thought it was a Bryozoan lying along side...then I found spikes? Can anyone tell me what I've run into here? Thanks Greg

I went to a new site on Thursday...brought home some fossil rocks. To my surprise when I got home I had a fossil from my bucket list. A Mucrospirifer mucronatus! I asked for other Id's on the fossil forum and one of them was a part of a Thorax from a Trilobite. So Friday, I went back and took the whole rock that I had been working on. Today, Saturday...I began working on that rock. Low and behold...I found a second Trilobite. Not the same species as the first. Although it's a bit broken...I do have all the parts, including the eyes! I'm so excited! I think it's a Psudodechehenella ro

Hi fellow forum members! So a while back I went on a field trip with the NYPS to a couple spots in central NY. Both spots were middle Devonian hamilton group. The first spot was Windom shale, and I believe the second spot was Upper Ludlowville. I started working on a trip report but only ended up doing the arthropods. I completely forgot about all of my other fins lol. Now I’m going to show some of my best non-arthropod fossils from the trip. Enjoy!
