Hi everyone, just wanted to hop on the Paleoart side of the forum and post one of my favorite pieces I've done in the last year. I gave it the apt title of "Unreferenced Hadrosauridae" as I began drawing the head of a random hadrosaur, not of any particular genus, with a charcoal pencil and began filling it in with scales. I would later submit the drawing to be displayed in the student art gallery, which was a cool first. Here it is after I finished the scaling, pre color. Add some color, red for the flashy bits, earth tones for camouflage.

Drove up into the Catskills 9/11 decided to have a look around for some plant plates found a few nice ones. One of them was already prepped for me love when that happens. This was found in blasted rock with shells, geodes on Vancouver Island. It is covered in some very thin hair like crystals and larger more solid quarts like crystals. It has a wood grain, very dark, charcoal like. I originally thought petrified wood but it is soft if you press your nail into it. Can anyone identify it for me? Thanks!

Hey Folks, We found this hunk this afternoon. Any idea why the piece of wood here in black is carbonized? It comes off when you rub it. Other pieces we found today are definitely fossilized, but this one is different. Any ideas? E & B

I sometimes find little black coal like lumps on the beach. How can I tell whether it is coal or charcoal? I know the difference between the two, but what can I use as a field guide ( so no radiocarbon dating ) to diffenciate them?
