"Deinotherium Tusk" I bought a while back
GarethGP posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
So I bought this end point of a supposed deinotherium tusk from a man in France a while back. Before I purchased I asked how he knew it was deinotherium and not mammoth etc. he gave me an explanation in poor english I didn't quite understand and then said he got it from a palaeontologist in France who's name he quoted (I checked, real palaeontologist). I've attached some pics. What do you think? It's definitely very old ivory of some kind. Thoughts? It's a little over 3 inches long.- 54 replies

Want to know if this is real and if it's real is it a Deinotherium tooth and if so is it worth getting or could I find better? The information given: - From upper Miocene age (Sarmatian) ca: 11-13 million years old Deinotherium (ancient elephant with tooth like hoe) Prodeinotherium bavaricum upper left M2 (penultimate) molar. The tooth was found near Gornji Vakuf in Bosnia. Size ca: 74 mm x 74 mm x 75 mm. Weight: 408 gram + packing. The root of the tooth was mouldered, the remained part was impregnated with glue. The part of the enamel in some places is partial.

Hi everyone. With these drawings i wanted to represent the extinct species of Prehistoric Elephants which have been found in Serbia. 1.Zygolophodon turicensis 2.Anancus arvernensis 3.Deinotherium giganteum 4.Gomphotherium angustidens The pics are maybe not so dark with shades as they have to be,that's because of my camera. If someone is maybe interested ,let me know. Enjoy Darko

Hello from Barlad, Romania! I have the pleasure to announce that an important frament of Deinotherium sp. was discovered recently by my friend and menthor dr. Lauretiu Ursachi from Vasile Parvan Museum (Barlad, Romania). This is the second Deinotherium discovered in Romania since the one found by G. Stefanescu in 1894. Here are a few articles: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3142189/7-million-year-old-fossil-elephant-ancestor-east-Romanian-village.html http://www.romaniajournal.ro/bones-of-7-million-old-elephants-grandsire-discovered-in-vaslui/ http://www.romania-insider.com/skeleton-of-7-million-year-old-elephant-ancestor-found-in-eastern-romania/151528/
