These discolorations, perfectly flush with the rock surface, are in sandstone from the Matilija or Coldstone formation, I think. Some of the pattern suggests dendrites maybe, but perhaps it's organic in origin? About 8 cm long, 3 wide. Ventura County, CA. Thanks!

Hi all, Came across this along the beach in La Jolla Farms in what appears to be sandstone or siltstone that fell out of the cliffs, initial guess it's Delmar Formation or Torrey Sandstone. Initially thought it's dendrite but getting a gut feeling that it might be a plant fossil. Any opinions? Thanks!

Manganese and Iron Dendrites
oilshale posted a fossil in *Pseudofossils ( Inorganic objects , markings, or impressions that resemble fossils.)
Dendrites are moss- or tree-like pseudofossils on the margins of rock fissures and fossils, usually on the bedding surfaces of platy limestones and sandstones. Mineral-rich water with high concentrations of iron and manganese has penetrated microscopic cavities between limestone layers, and diffusion-limited growth has created these brown iron and black manganese dendrites, which are often mistaken for fossil ferns or fossil moss.. This slab with manganese and iron dendrites comes from the lithographic limestones of Solnhofen. -
I have as organizing and pre-prepping samples today with the intention of having a very paleo preparation holiday. If you a familiar with the storied Millard County rock hound book, it mentions a site between the Amphitheater and The Pass that is good for red slate dendrites. With a bit of research and a lucky wrong turn, I found the site. If I had gone left I would have ended up at a dead end on a very high cliff... Anyway, here’s the dendrites: What I didn’t notice until tonight: A surprise pyggie!

Hello, I found this fossil in Northamptonshire, UK, which is Jurassic. I'd guess belemnite, but I'm not certain. One photo shows the fossil impression. The scale is in centimetres. Thanks.

Hello everyone! Today we found a few more fossils on grandfather's attic we did not recognize. #1: ??? Somesort of fossilized seed maybe? It is rock hard, and turned to stone. (This fossil is smaller than a walnut, but larger than a hazel nut.) ID'd as dermal denticle from a skate by AlDente. #2: Looks and feels like fossilized wood, but it's quite unique. We haven't found a second one like this on the attic. ID'd as Selenite by Ynot. #3: These were found amidst bivalves: #4: Plates with patterns which reminded us of dendrites. Is this somesort of pseudo-fossil? ID'd Stromatolites by Rockwood. Thanks in advance!

Hi all! Found two stones last summer in Aubrac, France. I found them in between many other stones in a property near Laguiole. I have no clue of the age of the fossils. When I picked them up I was pretty sure they were fossil plants, but now I'm starting to think a bit differently. I'm starting to think that the first stone has dendrites; but for the second I can't make out anything. What are your opinions? Best regards, Max
