I found this petrified snake/reptile head in North Carolina. I have this one and many others from my back yard. Including a petrified giant, and fingers with fingernails, perfectly preserved.. I know it's a petrified reptile from the petrification of 40 years of saltwater from the great flood. It's species is not in the internet anywhere that I can find, other than other petrified snakes, it's a one of a kind. I'm thinking it's extinct. It's very prominent for snake features and certainly a rock now. What does anyone here think? And I have many more like it. There are these and many others..

I found this in one of the creeks (bayou) here in southwest Mississippi. I have found a number of mastodon parts in the same. The most noticeable feature is a curved channel, much like that of a tooth canal. Does anyone know what part of what beast if might have belonged to? Thanks in advance.

My 11 year old found this on Naples Beach in Florida, and are trying to identify the type and approximate age. I can’t seem to find anything definitive- I’m guessing an extinct white shark, but would love some expert eyes. Thank you- this is more exciting than the masks, medical waste and needles floating to shore on our NJ beaches currently.

Mostly the crow shark teeth, goblin, mackeral were collected from big brook. Maybe some others but about 25% isnt big brook. -
Found in southern wisconsin about a mile away from the Mississippi River.

I dont mean to sound so ignorant but ive been watching some dino type shows on TV and I realized a question. On one of the shows a guy was pointing out the KT boundry. Then he goes on to say that below this boundry dinosaurs can be found and that above this bondry no dinosaurs can be found. On another show they were talking about how birds are decendants of the dinosaurs. So, my question is, How can birds have evovled from something that went extinct 65 million years ago? I know there must be a simple answer,,,,, but what the heck is it? RB

I can find photos that look like the ones in the last 3 photos but can't seen to find much info on them, are all of these the same species? I can't find anything that looks like the one in the first 3 photos so I'm not sure what to make of it. Based on the photos I've compared some of these to, I believe that some may have gone extinct during the Pliocene.

Hey everyone! I’m just looking for a confirmation seeing as i’m not very experienced. I found this in Summerville, SC, sticking out of the chandler bridge formation (late oligocene). I believe it is a tooth from the extinct mako, desori? Sorry, I don’t have anything to scale it with but it is about 1.75 inches long.

Hi all, How do you all go about pronouncing the scientific names of species that you find? So far, I've just gone with what sounds right and tweaked it based off what I hear others say. Most genus and species names are derived from Greek and Latin I believe, so looking at pronunciations in those languages may help. But is there any outside resource that you all use, or do you just say it how you see it? I'd hate to disrespect a shark by butchering his name!

SO I have a Question, For preparing fossils I know I should use an airscribe now, but what do I plug it into for the air? Does it come with something like a air bed blower? Or does it plug into the wall or some kind of special air tank?

Hello guys! My name is Marin, im from Croatia and im new to fossil forum. Just this morning I was diving near Zadar, Croatia and I found this stone in shallow waters (maybe 1m deep) just as I was coming out. It had this mineralised exoskelet fossil on its surface. Im sorry for not using a scale in the image but I'll take another pic with one if necessary. By my own estimate it is 3-4 cm long. I have no other info about it except the approximate stone size and weight. Thanks for help!!
