Hey everyone! Figured I would post my findings from GMR over the course of this month. I've found quite a lot, but most I returned to the waters as I did not feel they were display worthy. First up here is my initial collection, featuring various cretaceous sharks teeth, some meg fragments, a cluster of squalicorax teeth (Top Right), a cluster of Extinct White Shark teeth (Bottom Right), A squid shell (Bottom Left), and various other bits such as an unidentified and VERY fragmented reptile tooth, a mouth plate, and a ray denticle. Has anyone ever gone fossil hunting in or near Gloucester County? (Southern New Jersey)
Suchascenicworld posted a topic in New Jersey
Hey everyone, So I am from Northern New Jersey and moved back about a year ago. I always loved going to Big Brook and Shark River but I am hoping to expand my horizons. My friends recently moved to Gloucester County, and like me, also have a background in Plio-Pleistocene Arch/Paleo...as such! we are all giant nerds who love to take day trips together and find neat stuff! I am not too familiar with Gloucester (except for the site being excavated by Rowan), but I was curious if anyone has gone fossil hunting in that county or in areas nearby. If not, I do have a backgro- 2 replies

I'm stumped on this find. Interesting line of symmetry runs through the fossil. Found in approximate location of a 2' diameter turtle back shell. It's not a bivalve I've ever seen. Sure looks like a vertebrae however the spinal cord would not have been closed on the anterior. What is it? Suggestions?

How has Big Brook been as of late? Additionally, do you have any fossil hunting plans for the Spring?
Suchascenicworld posted a topic in New Jersey
Hey everyone, this is kind of a 2 in 1 post, but I thought it was appropriate. Spring is coming, vaccines are being rolled out, and while we are nowhere near the finish line, I am feeling hopeful for Spring and last week (at least up here in North Jersey), the weather gave me a sense of renewal! Anyways, I haven't been to Big Brook in awhile (last fall?), primarily due to my work schedule but my first question involves how things are going over there? I know that the area remains to be popular, but I am not sure if there has been a surge in activity over the summer and- 24 replies

Looking for fossil collection sites near Calgary
Vacationgirl posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I recently moved to Calgary from Winnipeg and would like to go fossil hunting - but I don’t know where to go. I am familiar with Alberta’s regulations pertaining to surface collection. I know most people don’t like to give out the locations of their favorite fishing holes or fossil sites. Any guidance you can provide for locations would be appreciated.
