Hello everyone! As you can see, I'm new to TFF and this will be my first substantive post, so if you have time I would appreciate any help in understanding what this fossil actually is so I can learn more about it. I've tried to follow the guidelines for posting as closely as possible (with limited information regarding collection) but if I have made some mistakes I apologize up front. My wife purchased this fish fossil for me in either La Paz or Cochabamba Bolivia in 1996 at a market. She didn't get any further information regarding where it was collected or what it is. She also purchased another fossil that I'll post later. I do not believe this fossil was actually collected in Bolivia, as it looks like vinctifer comptoni, which I have read is fairly common in the Santana formation in Brazil. But, I am an admitted neophyte and that is simply a guess. What do the experts think this is? I would like to learn more about the fossil and the possible collection area and age, and having an actual identification would certainly help in that! Hello everyone. We are new to this. We live in Wolfe City not far from Ladonia. We spent some time in the river today and found some interesting things. We found lots of Baculite and know what it looks like after talking to someone there in person. We found some other things and have no clue if they are even fossils. I know you will all be completely honest and let us know if we found junk. Lol. We are excited about trying a new hobby. First image is our first find. I know it's just a small piece of Baculite but it is our first so it is cool to us. The rest... well... no clue. I add more pics of our other finds shortly. Matt & Teri

During a recent trip to Norfolk in the UK I found myself looking through rock pools when the tide was out and realised there were at least three circular formations which were spread over the chalk surface but were made up of what looked like rocks fused together. Is it possible they are a series of prehistoric nests for dinosaur eggs? I have enclosed some photos. I look forward to hearing from you. Fwd%3a_Fossil_ID.zip

I live in southern Michigan in the Oakland County area. There are a lot of gravel pits in the area that are full of fossils from up north and the Canadian Shield that were brought over by the glaciers in previous times. Most of my fossil collection from the area consists of red limestone rocks with corals, pieces of crinoids, and brachiopods. This rock, however, is different. A few years ago I found a neat rock in my backyard. Took a few more pictures of the matrix itself, but there's a limit to the number of pictures I can post at once. I'm not an expert in geology, so I'm not sure what kind of rock this is exactly, but it's certainly not limestone or some sedimentary shale. The rock is quite hard, difficult to chip with a hammer, and appears to have many silicate inclusions. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it's granite. On the edge of the rock there is an interesting black protrusion of material that looks decidedly different from the rest of the stone. Since the rock looks like an igneous rock, I don't think the black mark could be a fossil, but at the same time, maybe the rock once was a sedimentary stone that metamorphosed into what I'm looking at.... Like I said, I know nothing about rocks, so I'm just guessing. Is it possible this is a fossil? Good Hunting, Brian

Hello. I found this rock on the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. I don't have the foggiest idea what this could be. Is it a fossil? I thought if anyone could steer me in the right direction it would be you fine folks. I have more pics I can post if needed, just reached my limit. Apparently I need to compress my images a bit more. Here’s one that has me scratching my head. It’s a bone I found in the Judith River Formation of Montana recently, I picked up these two pieces and later realized they go together. They’re definitely placed properly, but the shape is strange and I can’t ID it. My initial thoughts were some type of hadrosaur toe bone, but I can’t find any close matches online. What are y’all’s thoughts on this one?

I found this stone in my landscaping that looked interesting. To be clear I think this was moss rock from a stone yard, but I have zero information on where it is from and it has been in the yard for some years. I cracked it open and found lots of what look like plant fossil casts? The sandstone had been sitting wet and came apart surprisingly easily. Also if you are too rough with it the sand falls apart easily so the fossils are kind of delicate. I had some paleobond an applied that to the fossil areas, so they dont break down hope that was ok. It looks like it was an area where leaves and branches etc fell. Bits of bark and leaf patterns and what look like for all the world to me like pinecone or some kind of seed pods. Maybe I'm over imagining things. Any way here are some pictures.

There is a Vetulicola (partial) somewhere on this piece, I have been looking at it for awhile but I can't really spot where it is on here, anyone more familiar with Chengjiang fossils able to spot it or id for sure as vetulicola?

This last one (for now) was found if the river bank of the Meramec in St. Louis county. Pictures include two side views and one of the top of the rock. It’s about 12 cm wide X 8 cm long X 5 cm tall. Thank you!!

This is another from the river bank of the Meramec in St. Louis count missouri. I’ve included two pics of the whole thing and two closeup, one of each area I’m wondering about. The whole thing is approx 10 cm long X 3.5 cm wide. Thank you!

I found this one on the banks of the Meramec River In St. Louis county as well. I’m including a picture of the top and a closeup of the hole in the rock. The entire this is cm tall X 8 cm wide X 7 cm long. The hole is about 3 cm wide, 2 cm long, and maybe 3 cm deep (?). Thanks for your help!

Here is another one that I’m interested in the tiny brown thing in the larger rock, which I found near the Meramec River in St. Louis county mo. I’m guessing that the whole rock is 8 cm long x 4.5 cm wide. Thanks for taking a look!

Found in river bed, red river, tx side, dont know what it is help to identify. Looks like a mushroom, stubby end, cap, dimples in cap. Unlikely, but help identifying is appreciated

Hey guys, I dont really know what this could be, maybe just rock, but the color, shape, texture made me think twice - specifically the curved smooth bottom, sharp sides that curve strangely and just the shape in general. At first glance i thought it looked like a meteorite because of the flow-line'esque texture it has in some parts and the bottom side was smooth with little holes with some thumb print 'ish indents, and its darn heavy. But then it also reminded me of some marine mammal and large reptile fossil bones I've seen on here while perusing so I thought I'd ask. Also because of some other things I have found, which I want to ask about as well but dont want to spam all at once. Actually I'll post two of the other things too Found in Menlo Park, California about ~12" inches in ground, maybe slightly deeper. Menlo Park is considered Pleistocene/Holocene alluvial but there have been cretaceous foraminifers found in the towns surrounding Menlo Park. And then there was the paleoparadoxia found during the excavation of the Stanford Linear Accelerator as well, which is about a mile away from me, and they are from the Miocene I believe. Also after reading the USGS geological map survey of my area it seems that theres out crops from every time period, mostly due to the gazillion faults in SF bay area. So Im not really sure what I'm living on. Anyways.. The second rock looks like it has a mouth and some teeth which I found interesting. The third looks like a shell on the one curved end, but also like a saurapelta armor plate I've seen in photos before. Appreciate any thoughts, and if it is rock, do you know what kind? My son and I found both sides of this split rock on a steeply wooded slope in southwestern PA (near Wexford PA). I think it is a fossil but not certain. It looks like a segmented worm or possibly plant structure. If straightened out, it would measure 4-5 inches, depending on which surface. 0.25 inch wide. Looking for any information or ideas. First find in this area.

Found his fossil/Rock is a rock pile near Winton, QLD. It has distinct markings but I can't tell is if is a fossil, it looks a bit like a marine fossil.

I found this in Ellsworth county Kansas. Can't find anything online resembling it. It is in matrix with other cretatious period shells, none of which have been preserved as well as this. The entire shell is exposed.
