Here are some quick pics of what I've got so far. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmhX87Vr Dug a 5 gallon bucket worth and have three large pieces. The two in the trunk are a matched pair, full rounds. The large chunk with quartz vug is cool. I gave it a 2 hour treatment today in iron out and then a water soak. Quartz looks clean. There is a bit of groutite. Am going back out for a dig in the morning and I'm taking 3 more buckets. Cant wait to see what we end up with. Russ

Hey all, So I have a decent collection of mineral specimens from Oklahoma. Now, I'm getting into fossilized wood. I had the opportunity to dig at a ranch near the Petrified Forest National Park a couple weeks ago and made out with a very nice haul. I have some questions... 1. What is the best method for cleaning the wood? 2. One of my small stumps has a very sizable open cavity of quartz. What is the best way to clean this specimen? Oxalic acid? It should turn out very stunning. 3. Any tips for a newbie on collecting fossil wood? I am about 1/4 of the way through Frank Daniels' new book on fossil wood, and it is amazing! Russ

I am pretty sure the one is fossil wood but what is the smaller one? I found them at the beach at lake sakakawea by garrison, North Dakota.

Acquired this fossil a couple years ago and beings the collector is deceased I have no background on what it is or where it came from. It has a nice arching sweep to it and is rather thin. It has been broken recently, before I acquired it, and shows signs of carbonization inside as well as outside.what do you think it belongs to?

Found on an Austin Gem & Mineral field trip to the Bordovsky farm. Karnes county......Sat on my back porch for 8 years. Realized a nice man was collecting Mennegoxylon jonesii specimens and sold it to Rod Miller. Who sent me these spectacular images of the innards. I could not bring myself to cut it. But- when you need gas money for cutting rough collection & backpacking?© ©Rod Miller

Polygonal cracking is rare but not unheard of from peat bogs of Great Britain, fossil woods from south & west Texas, Tom Miner basin, etc.. The colloquial name is "Shrinkwood".© ©James Lopez
