Dear fellow forum goers, Last Sunday I ventured out in the rain to hunt the Cretaceous streams of New Jersey. This hunt has been my first in over a month and I somewhat eager to get down to the brooks. After one is weened off of fossil hunting for awhile, one begins to have lower expectations for the few trips they do embark on. They have yet to be "crazed" again. My situation was no different and I did not expect to find much. Upon returning from the hunt I have become "crazed" once again and secured another trip for this weekend. I am looking forward to hunting with Darctooth (Dave) and Frank later this summer; hopefully we can do some hardcore sifting and find some killer mosasaur teeth. Concerning the artifact, I am not sure whether this is actually an artifact and would appreciate an ID. Kind regards, Trevor General Finds Ratfish Jaw Section

I have over 20 fossils that I’ve found. They basically all look the same except a few, but vary in size and texture. I was hoping someone could tell me what they are and potentially how old/rare they are. Some look like trillobites but I can’t find similar fossils to match them up with. Thank you! —Chris, Southern MI

Now I have seen many people state their fossils are from the kem kem beds and this normally follows taouz or begga ..but what exactly is this magically formation that gives us so many fossils? Well to start with the kem kem beds are composed in my opinion of two formation the earliest being the Aoufous and the earlier being the Ifezouane, and thats great but what are there how can I tell if my fossil dinosaur tooth comes from either one of these formations? That's a good question and while the Ifezouane formation to me remains a much of a mystery as I have only ever dug in this area twice here is a general description the fossils are usually lighter in color can range anything from light sand to heavy conglomerate depending on where you dig, the fossils from this formation are normally more water worn and the layer that produces the greatest abundance are usually fast moving river deposits. Now onto the formation I know too well at this point and how do I know it so well? that's a good question the area I dig is only comprised of the aoufous formation. How do I know this well you can keep digging downwards but you get nothing this area missed out on the earlier formation and for this reason I keep it a knowledgeable secret not for stop people from having fun but this area only the father and son mine (and they claim the land is theirs ...i'm not going to get into politics in this topic) but now comes a further question well there is just the aoufous you are digging in yeah? ....well nope there are four layers to this formation mostly comprised of clay and sand but always a mix of two these photographs might help show this the bottom aka the floor is a layer and the roof is also a layer.

I live in Kansas and thought I had a lot of fossils. Well, I guess not. Is there a type of rock that houses more fossils than others? What signs (crystalization? ) a color? Etc should I look for?? Are fossils typically a certain color? Does anyone have fossils still in the matrix that they could post here to help me know what I'm looking for? Please. Thanks!!

I have never attempted to remove a fossil from rock. I don't have any tools, so I am looking to invest in tools needed. What's the best way to extract the fossil??

So you see from Morocco (Ouled Abdoun, late paleocene- early Eocene?) These funky looking Cow sharks called Weltonia ancistrodon. Though I don’t own one, I still have questions about it. The questions I have are the following: 1) There are always lowers. Never, not once, have I seen for sale an upper. Where are they? What do they look like? What about Symphyseals? 2) Have they ever been found anywhere else? I find it hard to believe they only come from the one site. 3) what is the purpose of the weird blade? Any papers on this?

Hi I’m really new at this. I know a good amount about current biology but little on that which is extinct. Basically I want to learn more and this summer I want to look for fossils by the lake (Connecticut) but I don’t know what I should be looking for? I know it’ll prob be sedimentary rock, but other than how do I know what’s a good rock? (also feel free to leave me any cool facts)

Hi all, I finally found my first Permian age fossils in southern Nevada, however I'm no expert on this age so perhaps some of you could help me out. In general I know what a brachipod looks like but it's really hard for me to tell when looking at these fossils. I'm not sure if the first one is one, or is just some sort of rock.

Walking Dirt Roads for Megalodon, Great Whites and Inverts
Cris posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I just uploaded the first of many fossil hunting vids to my YouTube channel. I should be able to share a lot more of my fossil hunts this way from now on. We (@addicted2fossils and myself) were walking dirt roads in FL that have shell material dumped on them, with teeth mixed in. We also found tons of invertebrates (gastropods, bivalves, coral), calcite crystals, whale bone, a nice great white shark tooth, a nice meg, lots of partials, etc. For those of you who do not want to watch a video, here's some pics from the hunt:- 30 replies

Hello all! I'm back again with some unidentified fossils. I was working in my garden this afternoon and stumbled across a rock containing a cluster of small fossils, ranging in size. These were found in Northern Illinois, close to where I found another shell fossil I asked about. All comments are appreciated! Thanks!

Really enjoyed the fossil expo yesterday In Edison, NJ. Just wanted to share some of my purchases with all of you. 90% of my purchases came from an expert or directly from a paleontologist that found the fossils. The only downside is that those who deal the Moroccan stuff.. you have to be careful. I came across some phony specimens. Like mosasaur Teeth plastered onto a different species jaw, or spinosaurus claws that are mostly fabricated. In any case if you are interested in buying Moroccan fossils, I suggest talking to somebody who is an expert there, like a paleontologist, and show them a picture of the specimen or bring it directly to them to tell you if the specimen is okay or not. That’s exactly what I did, and I felt much more comfortable because I only bought material that was fool proof. At least I hope haha. Anyway they have so many options, especially for those who love minerals. Looking forward to going back. Here are some pics This first pic is of an Allosaurus bone.

Hey guys I went to Pine Cliff NC again.(I went Sunday aswell ) This time was a bit more interesting, though not as big teeth some other stuff. I found a fired .22 bullet which is just great. Found some bear poop, even better. I found some cool shells and what apears to be a fossilized tiny mammal jaw fragment. I also found a ray mouth plate which I haven't found before. Does anything stand out to you? anyone know what these are? Possible jaw fragment anyone know what this could be? anyone know the species?

Hello everyone!! I have picked a couple of locations around Lake Texoma on the boarder of Texas and Oaklahoma. Dose anyone have any good advice for the area? This will be our first trip their and everything I’ve read and researched on the area is roughly 3-4 years old. So I’m looking for some current info. Thanks so much for any help you can give us.

Hello to all from Floridafossils! I am a Geology and Environmental science student at the University of South Florida. Not to be cliche, but I have always had a strong interest in earth history and fossils. My parent's old yard still shows scars from where I, "dug up dinosaur bones" in my own little world. Today my collection consists of fossils from Mammoth, Mastodon, Megalodon, Giant ground sloth, whales, horses etc. I spend most of my free days, in the river and have seen some of the most beautiful places this state has to offer. Anyone who enjoys this passion as much as me, is a friend of mine. I look forward to connecting to everyone on this page. I am sure it will be a fun ride. Sincerely, Floridafossils

I was moving some stuff around and doing a small bit of cleanup to make some room on my prep bench. Ran into a very nice little finished crab which i had forgotten about, and also ran into this multi ammo rock that ive been working on from time to time and then It got buried and forgotten. Put in about 3 hours of rock removal and its starting to look like something now. Its got a long ways to go still, but at least its finally gettin there. Where ever 'there' is. Ha!!! Anyways, I removed a heck of alot of rock from this rock after gluing it back together. Just glad I wasnt keeping track of the hours! RB
