  1. I've had so much fun hunting teeth in Post Oak Creek that I decided to try some of the other creeks in Grayson County. Last week's visit to another creek didn't produce much, but today's new spot had lots of interesting finds. Like Post Oak Creek, this one is Austin Chalk on maps, near the Eagle Ford boundary. Here are a few finds as they lay. There are two teeth in photo 2. Photo 4 requires a close look.

    Shark Teeth Identification

I have several shark teeth from Post Oak Creek in Grayson County, Texas and I was hoping to get help with identification. From what I've read it is the Cretaceous period. Here are some of them. Thank you in advance.

    Is this Bone?

Ok, so I found this in the creek and being a newbie I didn't know what it was so I brought it home. I really thought it was like a rusty old drawer pull. That's the shape it had. I had my son split it and it seems like bone. I hate that I deleted the picture of it before we broke it, but I tried to put it back as best as I could to how it looked. Any ideas on what it is? Thank you.

    Petrified Wood or Rock?

    Duck Creek echinoids ID x2

I found these about a week before Christmas in the Duck Creek Formation in Grayson County, Texas, but haven’t had time to post them. I found about 6 of the bigger variety, but only 1 of the smaller more damaged one. I think the larger is a Macraster, but I don’t know the species. I think this is actually my first Macraster. The other one I don’t know the genus. It’s a bit beat up, but I imagine someone can tell me the genus at least. The Macraster I am also curious about the right side dominance, or left dominance when viewed from the bottom side of the urchin. Notice the hump on the left is bigger here on the top left. All 6 echinoids demonstrate it. The other one Anyhelp would be appreciated.
  16. My daughter asked me to take her fossil hunting today. She has never asked me to take her before so I was excited to take her out. She’s only 13. We drove up to Grayson County where I knew we would be sure to find something. We went to a creek where there were about 4-5 different formations or layers visible. Near the top though was a red layer. I didn’t find anything of interest in the red layer while in the creek. But when we returned to the car I decided to look around at the hillside and found something I didn’t expect to see there. I have been to this creek before. It has more oysters than I’ve ever seen in my life. It has a few varieties of ammonites and some echinoids and Inoceramus clams and that is about it. Next to where I parked my car there was a drainage ditch with red dirt and sitting there in the drainage ditch was this cluster of brachiopods. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me what they are. One side of the cluster is red. This is the red side. The largest one is about 4 cm wide.
