    Fossilized egg

Can someone please tell me if this is an actual fossilized egg / it’s hollow - and if so, where would I sell it or get it authenticated?
  2. Hey team! What are your thoughts on this piece? Real? Permian branchiosaur from Germany. Thanks for any input

    possible dig site

i have 11 acres of farmland, and i found a ravine behind my barn. at the mouth of the ravine is either a hog holler, or animal holler, or a hole leading down into a cavern, idk yet. i am clearing it off this weekend carefully, and weedhacking it, and raking it. i would like to open this area up as a dig site, and i need assistance in how to properly achieve this. i would just start digging but i am afraid i will damage some fossil or something if i do not do it properly. there are 5 lakes within a thousand yards of the ravine, but they are either on a golf course, landlocked, or inaccessible private land/pine farm. i am seeking to dig in my area, and if anything is found, it would be proof more exists back here. this house is the top of the hill in all directions, and the ravine is the last land dip before the next property starts. if anyone is interested in contacting me, [send a PM] serious inquiries only please, i will respond with google earth images of the land, and dig site area circled. while the trees are still there, the google earth image does not reflect the last years land clearing my tractor and goats have achieved. if you are interested, please feel free to come survey the property with me and discuss the best ways to begin the process.

    Label help

Hi all. I really like to have everything to be labeled, but I have collected from locations that have multiple formations and ages. How would you go about labeling when there is 2-4 potential formations or ages? Thanks in advance

    Hi from Portugal!

Hi! My name is Patrícia, i'm from Lisbon, Portugal and i'm not a fossil hunter! It happens i often find some interesting things whilst fishing and i like to keep them... I guess i still hope to fulfill my childhood dream of finding a "treasure". I joined the forum, to get some items identified, but i thought it would be nice to introduce myself, before jumping straight to the Fossil ID section and ask for help. Happy fossil hunting! Pat
  10. Found this in a stream in Bowling Green, Kentucky along with plenty of plant fossils that were in clay like rocks

    Unusual fossil

I found this fossil over a month ago. It appears to be a cluster of fossilized eggs? Or creatures?... I have had no luck even coming close to figuring out what this is. I found this in an area loaded with crinoids. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help ID Fossils From Manitoulin Island

Hello, I just got back from my first fossil hunting trip and am hoping to get a little help to ID some of my finds. These were found on Manitoulin Island off HWY 6 & New England Rd, I`m sure a few people on here have already been there. I didn`t do any digging or picking but I managed to find a few specimens laying around worth bringing home. Fossil #1 Approx 6cm by 6cm total, gonna take a wild guess that it`s some sort of shell Fossil #2 Approx 7cm by 11cm total, looks like corral to me, lots of little bits in the area like this but this was the nicest one I found Fossil #3 Approx 5cm by 3cm total, no idea what this could be Fossil #4 Approx 12cm by 14cm total, again have no idea what these could be Fossil #5 Approx 7cm by 5cm total, possible the tip of a larger shell? Fossil? #6 Approx 12cm by 14cm total, not sure if this one is even a fossil or just mineral veins. I would be grateful for any help ID these finds, thanks in advance.
  13. Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you could help me ID this fossil. I have done some research into it and know it is from some sort of primate, The seller doesn't know much about it except that he found it at a curio shop on the Texas Oklahoma border in the early 1960's. Any help would be much appreciated. I have listed some pictures below to help with the process. Thanks, Ryan
  14. Hello everyone, I will be in Denver in early October, and I was hoping to spend at least one day fossil hunting. Is there anyone here who would be willing to give me some tips. This is my first trip west of the Mississippi River and I probably will not be back for years, or possibly ever, so I obviously won't pick any sites clean. I am a vertebrate guy, so that is what I am hoping to concentrate on. Any help or tips on where to go and what sorts of fossils I can find would be tremendously helpful!

    Fossil ID Help

Texas fossil (?) of Unknown Origin. Found on beach south of Galveston Texas
  17. Hi, my 8 year old found this on the beach in Galveston Texas today. Just on the surface at the Shell line. Less than 2 inches long by 1 inch wide. Smooth ends
  18. Hi guys! Is this legit? It looks epic... maybe too epic to be real?! Any advice would be much appreciated from a newb fossil enthusiast. Cheers
  19. Against better judgement, I acquired a "keishosaurus" fossil. I trust the dealer - but not necessarily their source. I'm attaching some photos - please let me know your opinion - do you think it's a real one, "restored/painted", or a complete/near complete fake. The chip in the left forearm looks concerning to me. Any insight is appreciated.
  20. These are finds from the Bone Valley Formation in south Florida. Dry land site a couple of hours south of Tampa. The site is predominately Miocene/Pliocene marine fossils, with some Pleistocene land fauna mixed in. This first find appears to be a operculum of some kind (not sure which species). What interested me, is the little black crystals(?) growing in the attached remnants of matrix rock. I have seen these little black pieces in shelly-matrix from different sites in Bone Valley, and I am curious as to what mineral they might be. Or, are they organic? Could they be phosphate or something else?

    Hello fellow fossil enthusiasts

Found this in a southern Indiana creek. Its not a rock, kinda stumped yet excited. Thank you gentlemen for you're time.
  22. Hello everyone, had a super quick trip to the cretaceous creeks of new jersey and found this particularly interesting large bone fragment, likely it is a chunk of miscellaneous bone material but it reminds me alot of a scute like ankylosaurus or some sort of other bone scute especially the edge, or from maybe something like a large turtle but I am entirely not sure if it's dinosaur, marine reptile, etc or if there is anyway to tell, looks super suspicious to me anyways so if anyone has any ideas I'd definitely love to hear them. (If more pictures are needed I will definitely be able to get some more angles if necessary)

    Spot the Vetulicola?

There is a Vetulicola (partial) somewhere on this piece, I have been looking at it for awhile but I can't really spot where it is on here, anyone more familiar with Chengjiang fossils able to spot it or id for sure as vetulicola?
  24. Greetings Guys! I had a question for you guys if you don't mind. I'll try to keep it simple. ---I am a Newbie at this. ---I finally got to take my first road trip to look for fossils. ---I'm from Louisiana, so not much rock formation around here so I went to the Appalachian foothills in North Carolina. ---I stopped at multiple locations where there were streams, rock formations, etc. --Couldn't find a thing until my last stop, which was and rock slide. ---I found a ton of Crinoids, pretty much every few feet. --I looked for multible hours for trilobites or anything else I could find. This is the question--- Do you guys think I should revisit that place and look a lot more, and be more patient, or should I move on. I only stayed within a 100 yard radius but got wore out. I made two trips to the same spot that weekend. I don't really need anymore Crinoids, but I don't want to pass up what could be a honey hole, and I don't realize it. i don't really know what a honey hole is in fossil hunting. This fall, I would like to go back, but I don't know whether to move or not. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
  25. Hi everyone- I have a juvenile mammoth tusk that I would like to learn how to stabilize and restore. The problem is I have (almost) no idea how to even start! The tusk is fully dried out, but it’s split down the middle. I need some advice! Here’s what I know has to be done: 1. Clean the outside and inside as much as possible without using water- any suggestions on what to use? 2. Superglue the two pieces together and use hose clamps to hold the two pieces together- any suggestions on glue/method? 3. Fill gaps/cracks with epoxy- any suggestions on a good type? 4. Sand sand sand! 5. Beyond this point I’m not sure- is there some sort of protective varnish people use? I’m sure I’m missing about a dozen crucial steps here- I have literally never tried anything like this before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I posted some photos of the tusk, and I will post photos of progress! Thanks everyone.
