I found this lying on a dirt road, in the Western Cape, South Africa. I looked at dozens of pics of mammalian teeth, and the only one I could find that looked similar, was a hippopotamus tooth.

hippopotamus gorgops tooth Found in Indonesia? I heard that it was found in the Solo River in Java, Indonesia. Is it true that it is a Gorgops hippopotamus? Did the Gorgops hippopotamus live in Indonesia? Are fossils found in Indonesia?

Hi all. I was planning on a little fossil hunting trip at the weekend, but the heavens opened and, even being an outdoors person, the torrent was too heavy for an enjoyable afternoon. Instead, we went into Derby city centre UK and found a Museum and Gallery. Not having planned ahead, we had no idea what kind of museum it was. Turned out, it had a bit of everything in their own rooms and was quite small. It did have some interesting stuff and I learnt something I never knew, so a good day in the end. To our surprise, we discovered there had been Hippopotamuses living in Derby or where Derby now stands. I've posted some photos from the Fossil room. I love the fossilised nest. Jes.

Hello! Today's hunt has been very fruitful! I found this tooth in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I believe it's miocene in age. It was laying in pieces all over the sand. I collected many of the small fragments, and carefully removed the most intact part. Once home I gave it several layers of paraloid b72, and removed it from the sand completely. I have found many crocodile fossils at the same location. I believe this is a hippo tooth, because it looks similar. I did a bit of research and saw that Archaeopotamus qeshta had been found in the same region, and I was wondering if this tooth belonged to that species. (Exposed side) (Top view of tooth) (Side uncovered) (Pic #1 shows the perfect flat surface of the top of the tooth)

Hi, This bone was found in Israel (in the bottom a small lake) with a few other bones. Is it possible to ID it? My main thought is Hippo but I am not an expert and would love a confirmation or if I'm wrong, an identification. Thank you very much in advance, Oz
