Just came back from the Southwest of France, with nice pictures :)(and few finds) My first week was in Rocamadour,Lot,a very old City ,i tried to visit few Quarries,two samples in the Dordogne,very close,and one near Figeac.Only few minerals(perhaps someone could tell me if i was right to carry them in my bag,i know nothing about minerals) On the road ,good sight? Very impressive,but very poor fossils tracks Minerals perhaps with a good prey?

I will be hunting at penn Dixie from the 21st to the 24th. If anyone is willing to take the necessary precautions ie masks and social distancing as much as possible, then I would love company. I’m ready to split a lot of rock!!

Obviously with everything going on in the world I would not be going out to go on excursions, but once everything is over I would like to try and find some teeth in my spare time. I live in Irmo and was wondering if anyone knows of any nearby locations that are good for fossils. Places not nearby would be fine as well, for I am up for a little bit of a drive.

Ok so I'm fairly new to hunting fossils my daughter is really into it so we gathered tools and found some in a road cut. Aparently here on Vancouver island there are a few reefs at low tides that are supposed to be great places to look my silly question is how the heck do you see anything when most of the surfaces of the rocks are covered in barnacles? Its hard to tell much of anything lol! Any tips for a new hunter?

Today I took my youngest son, Devin, to DSR for a 2hr hunt. The rest of the family was engaged in other things and we neede to get outdoors. We arrived around 3pm just as the sun was making it's way over the hillside. This helped to cool down an otherwise hot day. Devin decided that he did not want to hunt fossils so I brought his BB gun and let him shoot while I searched for Devonian Goodness. I was hoping for a nice trilo, but alas, they seemed to evade me today. I did find pygidiums but that was it. On the other hand Brachs and Bivalves were plentiful. Gastropods made a small appearance. I found a nice one encrusted with bryzoans with part of the coating missing to reveal the gastro inside. I thought it looked pretty cool. I also found a nice Bryzoan that unfortunately got left behind. We last at 5, which is what I promised Devin. I am sure he was shocked that I didnt say" Just 5 more minutes ".

What's become of our great Wild Kyle and Paleo Chris hunting in the Floridian jungle videos? I know the rivers are probably swollen, but that has never stopped our boys from finding great things roadside. Alright, I don't really care where they are, I just miss the duck!

Hello All! I've looking at a trip around the Perth Australia area hunting for fossils - My mate and our kids would love to spend a day digging and sifting looking for some fossils (although I suspect my kids will lose interest in 10 minutes) I've heard of the area around mole cap hill but I'm unsure where to start - If anyone is planning a trip I've love to tag along and get the gist of it all as I'm unsure where to start.

This year's second hunt was successful, considering the snow. There is still a bit of snow covering some places. I was still lucky enough to find some ok fossils. The area where I found these trilobites is called fossildalen/fossilvalley in slemmestad (i`ve showed pictured from the area before). The fossils here in the area stem from the time periods of Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian, a period of 541 million to 419 million years ago. At that time, Slemmestad was a seabed in a relatively shallow sea. The trilobites fossils I found are about 420 million years old I believe. I found around 10 trilobites or parts of them.

This past weekend I went to the creek (GMR) in Greenville, NC. We leave the house around 8 am and get there at around 9:15 am. We get in the water, walking to the spot, testing spots in the bottom for a while till we make it to the spot at around 10. When we got there, our hole looks like it was dug out a whole lot. We were walking up, hoping there was still gravel and I spot and little meg laying there on the bottom. I see lots and lots of smaller teeth, causing me to think that a storm washed out all the gravel. We start digging, finding tons of teeth, and around 1 pm, we eat lunch and my friend @AshHendrick shows up to join the party. We dig for about 2 more hours until the hole keeps caving in and its pretty impossible to dig. We Walk downstream for a while and go to a new spot. The spots were okay for around 30 minutes, but then it caves in. That's when we started walking out when we come across and huggge gravel bar on the side of the river. We sit around there for around 45 - 60 minutes picking up some fossils. This is where I found some Native American pottery and some petrified wood. The pictures will tell the rest. Don't flip over a rock in a creek to try to ID the snake that swam under it... cause if you do 4-5 babies might swim out and one may end up inside your sandal! Looked it up later, and I think it was a banded water snake. Was pretty funny after the fact! Not so much when I was flailing around trying to get my sandal off. Please don't tell my wife! (not my image, but it looked a lot like this)

My son and I are avid bottle collectors and have decided to keep an eye out for fossils too. Have seen plenty of them along the rivers and creeks that we explore.hopimg to make friends and to learn something new.

On Sunday, my family and I decided to head out for a fossil excursion to spend out day.@Uncle Siphuncle pointed out a good fossil site for me to find trilobites at a road cut in St. Leon, Indiana. Thanks a ton!! Unfortunately, as it had rained for quite a while that day, we had to wait until well after noon to reassure ourselves that we would not need to fossil hunt in the rain. Luckily, this also meant we got fresh picks before the other collectors! Here is the haul from the day: (I hope to bring back more over the course of the week!) Top to bottom: (1) Random pieces of the trilobite Isotelus (sp.). (2) The largest piece of trilobite that was found that day at the site. Although the piece is large, this is just a tiny, tiny fragment of the real trilobite! It is included at the bottom of image #1. (3) The best find of the day. It is a piece of the rear-half of the trilobite Flexicalymene (sp.). I do not know the specific specie, but the most abundant trilobite found at the site is Flexicalymene meeki, so it is safe to assume that the trilobite is F. meeki. After staring at the trilobite piece for some time, I extrapolate that it is approximately ~2/5ths of the trilobite which it once was. It is indeed very small! (4) Fossilized gastropods: (5) Fragments of orthoceras. These tend to be larger! ( (6) A handful of associated crinoid stem segments. The 2.4 cm one is quite long for a piece found detached from a matrix. I like it! —————————————— Overall, I think that our trip to the site had not met its maximum potential. We thoroughly examined every foot of ground that we covered- but this was only a short strip of land roughly 20 * 60 feet. Time was not available for a longer hunt. I estimate that we covered less than 5% (!) of the total fossiliferous area available to us that day— next time, I hope to find more than just ~1/3rd of a trilobite! -FS

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, but have been hunting fossils (mostly in Utah/Nevada) for several years now. Most of what I've found are corals or shells, but I'm eager to expand that collection and branch out a little. Is there anyone on here that goes regularly, and is this the place to ask about getting a group together?

We are in Venice, FL visiting family and it’s been such beautiful weather! The past 3 mornings, I have lugged myself and my 2 toddlers (1 and 3 years old) to the key and we have had the best time. We had a good storm a couple days ago and the tide has been pretty high with some decent size waves, so hunting has been tough, especially having to be so careful with the babies. But here are some of our finds from our trip - not too shabby for having to hunt while chasing toddlers! Was really hoping to come home with a real gem, but the kids love the sharks teeth so I’ll take it. This is about 1/2 our haul. Some of my favorites. I’m so new to this, but I feel like I’ve read half the forum over the last week or two. It’s addicting! If anyone has any idea what some of the circled items are, I’d love to hear.

It might be just me and my 7 year old for spring break this year and was wondering what you all thought were the best places to hunt in the first week of April? Last year we did Texas, which was fun, but would like to go somewhere new. I believe mazon collecting starts then? That's nearby and a possibility. I figured hit some road cuts and geode digging if we stay in the wisco Illinois area. I'd love to hit up the peace river as I hear that's a good time of year, but I worry about the gators down there's. I saw a place that rents canoes and will drop you off up stream which is cool. I just worry about a 7 year old being easy prey plus the fact that she can't swim. Any thoughts on safety with that? I really would like to do fishdig in wyoming, but unfortunately they dont open until late May. Anyone else have any good recommendations for this time of year? I'm open to pay to dig or public areas. Thanks in advance.

I have a few quick questions in regards to this tooth (measures approximately 2" in overall length) which I found last week in the peace river 1. What shark does this belong to? My guess is megalodon. 2. Does this belong to a Juvenile shark, or would this have been a smaller tooth on an adult shark? Either way, taking this to the jewelers because it's my first large shark tooth find!
