Hello, new to forum. Found these over last 4 days just walking around wash out areas behind empty home lots on ponds that were close to rivers. Others have found much bigger stuff but the quality of these really surprised me.

Hello everyone! I am very excited; In 2 weeks I am going fossil hunting on the Jurassic coast of Lyme Regis,Charmouth and the nearby fossil beaches. I have already went to Lyme Regis when I was a kid and all I remember was spending hours flipping stone for small ammonites. I would need some advice... Where are the best places and areas to find fossils,I am really on a vertebrate hunt more than a invertebrate one but it’s cool to come across some aswell. I am considering doing a guided tour with a professional fossil expert from Lyme Regis. Do you have any suggestions/advice/addresses? I would also be looking for the best fossil shops around Lyme Regis and Charmout, I know they are a few, I just don’t know which are the best and worth it. Any English fossil experts? Really Appreciate all the help and suggestions Kind regards.

Hello, all! Making a trip toward the end of this month down to Philadelphia from Buffalo. Planning on taking NY 390 -> NY 86 -> PA 81 -> PA 476. Looking for any road cuts or spots on that route, or nearby that route to hit on the trip. Any ideas? (I'm primarily interested in trilobite locations, but will entertain anything likely to be productive. It's a short trip, so quantity over quality is the objective here.) Thank you in advance! -Jay

I'm new to fossil hunting. Got my start on the Cooper in SC. I am currently in Richmond VA and looking for opportunities closer to the house. I have a shallow running river boat, all my own SCUBA gear with advanced certifications and equipment. Any leads are appreciated. Also willing to take someone knowledgeable of places to hunt along the Virginia coast and rivers. Thank you Billy

So I'm curious for the best place in America for a variety of fossil hunting. If you guys could move anywhere in the US, where would it be? There has to be a perfect spot with different epochs in all directions right? Maybe not, but what do you guys think?

Most of my fossil hunting to this point has been looking for shark teeth, mainly along the Calvert Cliffs or the Potomac. As I am looking, often I see a tooth brought in by a wave, and what looks like could be another tooth being taken back out by the wave. With the next wave, the tooth in front of you could be gone. Now obviously, if you have something special in front of you, that is what you are going for, but what if you aren't sure what is being washed back out? Do you go for the known, or try and grab the unknown before it gets washed away? Just things I think about while hunting. Was wondering if anyone else did as well. I typically go for the known, but usually second guess myself. Lol

Unwritten Laws For Corridors and other non-interstate/highway roads?

Earlier this summer, my father and I went on a road trip around the vicinity of Seneca Rocks in West Virginia; on the way back from a long day of hiking we stopped on a small outlet from the road (Corridor H, near Elkins) to stretch our legs. It was right beside of an extremely large and layered road-cut, we were in awe to find the best shell fossils that we've found in WV so far just laying everywhere. I climbed up the edge of the hillside parallel to the road to the second layer of exposed rock which was 99% shale (absolutely insane amounts of fossils, crinoids, brachiopods, etc. all nearly perfectly preserved) we left with only a few fossils. Ever since then we have talked of returning to have a more extensive dig at the site, but we fear that there are laws which prohibit us from being there and collecting. The road that the site is on is 'Corridor H' which connects Route 48 and Route 250. It is a double lane on both sides. I understand that interstates and highways are no-go's, but nowhere that I've read does Corridor H or a 'Corridor' in general classify as one of these (also not to mention that it is unfinished in most parts of Virginia, this doesn't apply to the West Virginia portion, however...). I would like to know if anyone had any thoughts on digging here, i've seen a few treads mentioning collecting on Corridor H but nothing to the extent of knowing if it is legal or not. (if anyone has any questions for me either pm or reply) Thanks all. The small gold star represents the locality. A satellite image of the area. How important is it to have a geo hammer when fossil hunting? What exactly do you do with it, other than trying to crack open a concretion?

My father and I are planning on taking a trip fossil hunting this summer, we can't seem to find anywhere that really seems worth driving to. (Everything around us is basically Devonian.) We were looking for something different: Mosasaur, Arthropods (Cambrian preferred), Holocene, etc. My dad loves actual bones and I love arthropods from Cambrian. We came to a consensus and are looking for anything marine in the Mid-West. But we will take any suggestions into consideration! (We are new-ish to fossil hunting and are willing to go anywhere and do anything.
