Good Morning! My wife and kids are spending a few days on the Texas side of Lake Texoma (Gordonville, Texas). Are there any places nearby that might yield a few of the famous ammonites from this region? Thanks in advance, Daniel

Only reason I think this may be something is because I found it next to four associated shark vertebrae. It's from Lake Texoma.

I have some extra fossils I want to trade. I'm looking for trilobites or megalodon teeth but I will consider other offers. The first group is from the Grayson Marl Formation in Denton County, Texas. It includes two Mariella ammonites, two shells, two clams, three brachiopods, two partial Cymatoceras nautiloids and one complete Cymatoceras.

One night during our trip to Texas, most of the family wanted to be bums, so my daughter and I went for a hike at Lake Texoma to look for this ammonite beach that we had read about. We parked west of the bridge between Texas and Oklahoma where there is a boat dock and trails. We followed the shoreline west, and most of the ground is broken limestone for a beach. We hiked for a good hour+ before we started really seeing any ammonites. There were many fossil oysters to be had along the way, which can be seen in the car charger picture. I was beginning to wonder if this ammonite beach really existed when we finally started finding some pieces. When we finally got to the location, it was by a bay, and the ammonites were plentiful. The problem is, trying to get a whole one of these guys out, and then carry it all the way back to the car was a no go. We took back a few fragments, but there was no way I was hauling one of these bad boys all the way back as they weigh probably 50-100lbs easily. Luckily we had found the big ammonites a couple days before with Bob from here, so I didn't feel the need to go all out. Here are some pictures of our "catch and release" in situ adventure as well as a few things we took out with us. "

I have three groups of fossils from Texas to trade. I am mainly interested in trilobites, Megalodon teeth, and Ammonites but I will accept other fossils. The first group is from Lake Texoma. It includes an unprepared ammonite, a idiohamites ammonite, a partial ammonite, echinoids, clams and an unprepared echinoid.

Took a little trip to the Denison Dam area of Lake Texoma(border of OK and TX). I pretty much grew up here so it was nice getting back. Such a beautiful area. We had massive erosion after record floods last year. Fossils were abound and I got some neat pics.

The lure of ammonites was strong, but with the US Army Corps of Engineers regulations regarding fossil hunting on USACE-managed land, I figured I'd play it safe & only collect photographs of what I saw. It was a bit refreshing to walk out of a fossil site without what felt like 500 pounds of rock in my backpack!

Dallas Paleontological Society got permission for a group "casual collector" hunt at Lake Texoma from the US Army Corps of Engineers. This was my first Texoma hunt. Here's what I found: An almost-complete Mortoniceras sp. ammonite. I'm getting closer to finding a complete ammonite! A chunk of Mortoniceras sp. ammonite with a piece of the limestone "mold" that it came out of.

Hi, I found this beauty at lake texoma. Upper Cretaceous era, Eagle Ford I think. Is it Oxytropidoceras? It's in really good shape. Both sides are present. I liked to had a coronary when it popped right out of the limestone. It's size is 9" x 7 1/4" x 1 3/8"

In a couple of months will be at Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center on Lake Texoma in Pottsboro, TX. Never been there but know from reading an older book that Lake Texoma is a great place to hunt fossils and possibly find some treasures my daughter and I have not seen yet. Anyone have any suggestions on where and how to look in that immediate area? You can emial me or post here. Ahead of time, thank you so much. Have not been hunting in a while and only have in Texas Hill Country and Sulfer River so excited to get to go some place new and another chance to search for treasure!
