4 inch pristine Georgian Megalodon tooth
Megatooth Collector posted a gallery image in Member Collections
From the album: Megalodon Collection
This is a pristine 4 inch Megalodon tooth from Georgia, USA. I use this one to show people who see my collection what each part of the tooth is suppose to look like (ie. root, bourlette, serrations, enamel, etc.). What is lacks in size, it makes up in quality. -

6.6 inch Megalodon tooth, a true "Megatooth" (measurement)
Megatooth Collector posted a gallery image in Member Collections
From the album: Megalodon Collection
This is the biggest tooth in my collection, a true megatooth. It is 6.6 inches along the longest slant, 4.9 inches in width at the root, and is from South Carolina. There are not repairs or restoration on this one. Not the highest quality tooth in my collection, but for this size it it in great shape. The root and blade are completely intact, good enamel, decent serrations and tip. The top layer of bourlette is missing which is probably fortunate or I might not have been able to afford this one! The thought of the shark that once owned this tooth ... WOW!© ©

This is my 5.2 inch Aurora/Lee Creek Megalodon tooth. No repair or restoration. I really love the colors on teeth from this region. I rarely handle this tooth, actually keep it in a Riker frame box, mainly because teeth from this location are prone to enamel flaking. You can see this focally where the root and enamel meet.© ©

From the look of its color I am guessing its a South Carolina tooth. Looks to be in pretty good shape, though I notice a little spiky bits coming out from the side of the root: Is this a rare feature in a meg tooth? Thx.
-
I have seen many great looking meg teeth from various places, sizes and colors as well as price ranges. So it makes me curious, I have seen a lot of people and dealers talking about the rarity and desirability of certain specific kind of Megtooth, like Bone Valley, Lee Creek, Chilean, etc. I guess Chilean and Aurora Mine one's high prices are due to the rarity and limited supply with no more new materials entering the market. But what about the variety of colors of Megtooth like Red, Larva, Green or I have seen some with multiple colors split on the same root. Is there some kind of general consensus among serious collectors that rank a certain kind of colors to a certain degree of rarity and desirability? Or is it pretty much, purely "If I want this color, I am willing to pay $xxx"? - i.e. just due to the whim of the buyer's desirability or do certain colors have some geological or paleontological implication that makes certain colored specimens more rare and valuable? Thx
