I felt bad for my loving fiancé when I opened my Christmas present. And almost immediately recognized this giant Morrocan trilobite as a fake. A pretty bad fake at that! There are just a plethora of things wrong with it! Enjoy looking.......... when i put it underwater for a few seconds and paint started washing of it, she was convinced. Makes me mad that the guy selling it, told her it was completely authentic and must of known that didnt know any better. But I still will keep it in my collection as a fake. And I will keep an eye on this guy and see if he tries to pass any more fakes. Anyway it is a great conversation starter. Merry Christmas!

Hi all! Have a trilobite here that was a gift. Exact origin unknown but was told it was Moroccan. Everything I look at points towards this being a reedops but I figured since the community is here let's double check and see if I did it correctly as there appear to be a few similar looking species.

Is this Metacanthina Trilobite real?
Lydon posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone, I got this rather nice looking Metacanthina recently as a present as well as some other trilobites (which have sadly turned out to be clear fabrications after some research, clear bubbles etc.) This one looked more convincing and I have gone over it with a magnifying glass but couldn't see any details various websites told me to look out for. Was wondering if someone with more experience could spot anything suspect! There is a crack along the matrix and on the rear of it's right eye some lens detail can be seen. Andalusiana Cambropallas Anxiety
Kurufossils posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
For a long time I've always wanted to have one of these trilobites, but they are so commonly faked I get anxiety whenever I consider ever purchasing one which has put me off from them for so long. I know there are obvious fakes but some get very close to real and I have a hard time disconcerning, a little restoration isn't so bad to me if its small part and the majority is real. Below I'm going to post a few pictures of some recent ones that leave me scratching my head. God forbid if these end up being fakes even though I definitely suspect restorations for sure, anyone know where to come across a real one?- 10 replies
