Definitely a controversial subject that has been addressed by several paleontologist. The latest writing is a blog which Ive attached by noted paleo reconstruction specialist Scott Hartman. In his blog he addresses the case for and against lips. In his own word "I’m putting lips on all my non-beaked non-avian theropod skeletal reconstructions". I throw terms like juvenile, subadult and adult around freely but never really considered the detail around what actually defines these age classes. Came across this Royal Society publication that addresses the ontogenenetic stages of non-avian Dinosaurs. A bit technical but I was able to slosh my way through it and get good info out of it. A paleontologist at the Canadian Museum of Nature is countering decades of studies that assert that some dinosaurs can be identified as male or female based on the shapes and sizes of their bones. A study was conducted on non-avian dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex, Allosaurus fragilis, Stegoceras and Stegosaurus to determine if sexual dimorphism existed. The study included tests and concluded that no evidence for sexual dimorphism was found in any of the examined taxa, contrary to conventional wisdom. This is not to say that dinosaurs were not sexually dimorphic, only that the available evidence precludes its detection.
