Hello fellow paleontology nerds, I would like to get some help coming up with ideas for a paleontology project. I am learning in a special class in school where we learn electronics, coding and biology. I am now in 11th grade and we are starting to work on our finale project. The project needs to include electronics and coding and it also has to be a solution to some kind of a problem in the world. We have a bunch of teachers to help us, a ton of electronic parts(sensors,resistors,cables, whatever we want as long as it's not too expensive) , 3D printers to use and over a year to work on it. It's a big deal and there are a lot of possibilitys. This is the part where I need your help. I decided I want to create my project in the field of paleontology because I am very intrested in paleontology and the only thing that ever annoyed me about it is that I could only learn things but never put my knowledge to use so I guess this is my chance. My original idea was to make a small range GPR to help with fossil prep but the parts to build an accurate GPR were too expensive so I need a new idea. Since the people here are some of the most skilled and knowledgeable people in the field I figured you might have some paleo-problems for me to try and solve and maybe even ideas for solutions. After getting my Horseshoe canyon formation Hadrosaur and Ceratopsian fossils I decided to set a goal for 2020. To get dinosaur and and other fossils from the Carboniferous to the Cretaceous from around Canada formations. If anyone could help me out with this please PM me, it would be much appreciated. I have finally managed to persuade a teacher to let me do an at least slightly paleontological essay so i'm really happy, however the topic i'm doing is quite broad but i do have 1.5k words to summarise it in, i would like briefly outline the key crossroads in the evolutionary lineage of humans, i have shortened these to: Sarcopterygii-tetrapods , reptile to mammal, 4 legged to 2 legged , i would appreciate any opinions on this and any literature that anyone knew would be helpful, thanks again, will

I made this chart about the Greenriver formation, and I was making sure I had everything right. I know I am missing 3 fish, but I could find no evidence of predation or them preying on any other fish. My conclusion was that Amia was the super predator!

So this mesosaurus skeleton has been on the favorite auction site for ages. It looks pretty rough, but after reading all the informative fossil preparation posts on this forum I'm beginning to think this skeleton could look nice with some prep work. The only areas of concern are the big sections of matrix that look filled in (shown outlined in the picture). This was likely done to replace missing sections of matrix. I remember reading a post where someone showed a fossil that had its matrix dyed a brighter color to increase contrast. You can see here with this skeleton the bones are nearly the same color as the matrix making the mesosaurus hard to see. Maybe I could dye the matrix a lighter color to make the Mesosaurus contrast a bit more? Also, what other preparation techniques could I employ to make this fossil look the part? I'm really considering trying this project, so any input anyone can provide would be extremely helpful.

Hello all, Next year, the last year of high school for me, we have to write an essay of over 100 pages. It has to be about science and because it has to count so many pages, we have to choose something that we like, in my case fossils. Now I don't know what specific topic I should choose? I have a couple of ideas, but they all have pros and cons. Could you guys help me out? First idea: - titel: Fauna and flora of the Maastrichtian of the Hell Creek Formation. - pros: I think this should be possible to write 100 pages? There are many animals described from this formation. -cons: We can't just use photos from the internet without permission of the owner, and because I only have one Hell Creek tooth, It will be hard to get nice pictures. I also have trouble to find scientific papers and pictures of them. Second Idea: - Titel: The Kem Kem beds: a view in the Cenomanian of Morocco -pros: I have already a couple of fossils from this area, and they aren't too high priced if I need some more. -Cons: Would It be possible to write 100 pages? Many fossils can't be identified properly due lack of research. Any other Ideas would be also great. I prefer vertebrates because fossils like trilobites are not even known by my teachers. In school, I am doing a phylum project, where we discuss in detail about a certain phylum from the Eukaryotic kingdoms. Desperately wanted to do Arthropoda (as I have collected this quite frequently and am quite fond of them, as you may already know), but we were last to choose due to chance, and Arthropoda was long gone In the end, we were given the plant phylums of Angiosperms and Conifers. I personally came to the agreement that I would research their evolutionary lines, seeing I am passionate in all things paleontology. I know some about the evolutionary line, such as that Conifers first appeared 320 MYA in the Pennsylvanian and Angiosperms came about 125 MYA in the early Cretaceous, but beyond that, I know very little about their evolutionary lines. Knowing the kinds of incredibly knowledgeable people that come here, TFF was the first place I turned to. Here, I'd like to pool any and all relevant articles. Any contributions are very welcome!

Over the next month, I have a school project relating to collecting at multiple different GA sites for the school news show. Already know I can head to the Conasauga Formation for one stop, and I'm also thinking of checking out Cretaceous deposits down South for the first time. Any recommendations as to specific Cretaceous GA sites, or other sites in general in GA? Wanna keep it in-state so it'll stay as local.
