Just finished this Psittacosaurus mount. I'm pretty happy with it. All real bones from China. The wood base is Oak, with hand shaped XPS foam on top and painted look like stone. Then i added resin to simulate water in spots. The whole frame is 3/16" & 1/8" welded rod.

Is this a proper foot?
Also_Loves_Music posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi! So, this is from a seller I've bought from before. Spino teeth, cropolite, some eggshell, nothing too weird. When I saw this foot, I found it really cool. It's supposed to be from a psittacosaurus. I'm supposed to pick it up later. So I'm reading up on this dinosaur, only to hear they are being faked a lot... I'd love to hear your thoughts! -
Hello I'm interested in a Psittacosaurus skeleton I found online. I know these almost always consist of bones from different animals, I don't really mind that. The main thing I want to know if there's any visible restorations or stuff that looks off? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to share my collection of Psittacosaurus today. According to my knowledge, it's impossible to buy anymore. So, ever I know the seller/ orginal seller switched the surrounding rock and someone used another dinosaur's claw to replace the missing part. I still bought it. And I think that is so exciting to own a whole dinosaur at home. I also found a expert to make me a tailor-made box and renew the periphery from yellow to black. I hope that will it more noble. Enjoy!

Psittacosaurus skeleton - so many questions
MrMosu posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello TFF, Former lurker here, now fresh newbie. I've stumbled across a Psittacosaurus skeleton that seems too good to be true and I'd like to ask for your opinion(s). It looks real to me. No clear origin, sold from Taiwan, length 1.2 meters, weight 3.5kg (mistake, red flag or nothing?). I've asked for additional details (that I will or won't get), but meanwhile I can't decide if it's real and I'm paranoid or ... not So, what do you make of this specimen? Anything suspicious or noteworthy about it? Any input would help, thank you!- 2 replies

Juvenile Psittacosaurus - real or fake?
Tressmeister posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone! I would like to know your opinions on the following Psittacosaurus mongoliensis specimen. Found in Liaoning, China. Size about 20cm long and ~1kg heavy. I see there's quite a lot of glue/consolidant here. I know some are carved and many are composites but I would like to know your opinions. Is this real or fake? Your input is highly appreciated. Cheers! -
Psittacosaurus leg bones?
ConnorR posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Third topic I've posted in two days, lol. Found some cheap Taco fossils, listed separately but may or may not be associated. First one is metatarsals: Second is a femur: Third is a tibia: The seller says that these are "reconstructed from matrix". What I assume that that's supposed to mean is that these were broken bones that were removed from the matrix and then reassembled. Or that's what I hope, at least. I also found what appears to be a complete Taco foot.- 10 replies

Articulated Psittacosaurus, near complete, display ready
sneakyelf posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Here is a ready-to-display psittacosaurus on a custom built armature that I am willing to trade for something special. All bones displayed are real bone, no repros to fill in gaps. Total length just over 36 inches. All bones are attached to the armature reversibly (museum wax, wire, string). The base is black walnut. The framework is welded steel. IT is sitting on a placemat for size reference. I have a second psittacosaurus that is not mounted, the bones are redder in color, and it was previously mounted with many glued joints. That one is almost four feet long and needs some work to make it look as nice as this mounted one. I'd trade that one too. Here in the States since 1990s. Please feel free to ask any questions.- 14 replies

Psittacosaurus skull: Is it real?
Praefectus posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello. I was wondering if I could get some opinions on the authenticity of this Psittacosaurus skull. The seller didn't provide measurements and stated the skull came "from Asia." I suspect this is a fabrication, but I would like to hear others' opinions. Thank you for your help.- 5 replies

Hi Members, I'll start off by saying that I'm a complete newbie in the fossil/dinosaur world, so please forgive me for using incorrect terminology. I have just come to acquire a complete Psittacosaurus mounted skeleton (see photos), that is mostly intact on the mount. The previous owner had a box of manus parts (phalanges, etc.). She also had an old tube of adhesive in that box (B-7000 in the "parts" photo). I would like to "restore" the structure via glueing the loose parts back onto the skeletal structure. I am looking for advice on which adhesive to use, e.g. should I use the B-7000 that the previous owner had? Through my web search, I have found references to Paleobond and Starbond as possible adhesives to use (with varieties different mostly by viscosity). Are these the best brands and types of adhesives for such work? Other than the adhesive itself, should other substances be used for preparation, hardening acceleration and preservation purposes? Any advice for this aspiring "paleontologist" would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Biju

Psittacosaurus Vertebrae: Is it Real?
Praefectus posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello. I was wondering about the authenticity of this set of vertebrae. I suspect that it has had considerable repair and restoration. Particularly, the orange areas and some of the cracked sections seem off. I'm also suspicious of the fact that the vertebrae are all connected. Thanks for any help identifying the authenticity. Note: I'm aware of the laws regarding fossils from China and Mongolia. I am not looking to add this piece to my collection. I'm just curious if it is real or not.- 1 reply

Is it possible that these are Psittacosaurus vertebrae? The seller gives poor locality with only saying it’s from Mongolia and they are around 1.5 cm for the largest one. Thank you! @Troodon @LordTrilobite

Hi everyone, I am currently thinking about buying this Psittacosaurus femur, as it would be a nice and a bit of a rarer addition to my dinosaur collection. The piece is said to have been found in the Yixian Formation, Liaoning Province, China and it measures 14,5 cm And while it looks like a genuine and okay bone to me (with perhaps some composite elements like the little protruding part which is typical of Psittacosaurs) I am not really an expert on Chinese dinosaur fossils. The bone looks like the femur on the replica skeleton I own, but I am not 100 % sure whether this is actually the real deal or not. And if it is real, if it does belong to Psittacosaur or just another animal? @Troodon & @LordTrilobite what are your opinions on the bone?

Strange bones on psittacosaurus fossil
Jacobloven posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone! i found this psittacosaurus skeleton on an auction site. At first glance I noticed that something as off. It’s supposed to be from an old collection and the juvenile specimen is about 50 cm in length. These are my issues with it (would be great to hear your opinions about this). 1. The spine, neck and tail doesn’t look at all like vertebrae. 2. In the skull there’s some black mineral left in the eye socket and in the mouth. But it doesn’t match any mineral I’ve seen around these specimen before. 3. The mounting and position is just very off. 4. The ribs are clearly replacements. What’s your view on this? Is it worth buying and further restoring?- 4 replies
